How come the majority of gay people are Christian. I am a Moslem and I never heard of us wanting to marry the same sex. As a matter of fact it is against ALLAH'S law to do so. Is it because Christianity has a very open opinion about this or what? God Bless.

The majority of OPENLY gay people may be Christian. This is because, as a society, the United States and several European countries are more open about sex and other personal issues. They also happen to be Christian. It's less that more Christians tend to be gay, and more that they happen to be Christian AND have the freedom to openly admit it.

Probably because the culture of Christianity is a bit more welcoming for gays than the culture of Islam. Most places where Islam is a dominant force, gay people are murdered-by law or vigilantes. Gays stay in the closet. Christian areas tend to be (but not always are) less violent towards gay people. Furthermore, the average Christian is less extreme than the average Muslim. By extreme I mean that Christians don't always follow the word of the Bible. But Muslims do with the Qu'ran. This is probably a consequence of the super sacredness of the Qu'ran that it must be read in the "original" text and original language.

I, personally am gay and because of that (and other factors) am not a Christian. Of course, I doubt I'd be Christian if I was straight. Gay Christians, like most Christians don't acknowledge the verses in the Bible that show themselves in a bad light. For example, some gay Christians may look at the Leviticus verses as "straight men should not screw men" instead of its literal meaning. This is typical in Christian theology. It actually is necessary to do this, however, because some verses directly contradict others.

Seriously, this is strange because my boyfriend (who is muslim) and I were talking about this 2 days ago. We both agree with you and see what you mean!

People who follow Islam such and my boyfriend have grown up with standards of learning to raise a family and pass the religion on. You never see gay muslims because they learn that it's a choice. Also a gay muslim would be bashed for this type of behaviour. They either leave the religion or suppress the feelings and get married. Christianity is a religion that people go to, because they feel as though they're being accepted since christians put other religions down for being wrong. And if a gay doesn't find their behaviour to be wrong, but their religion does, they move on.

Christianity has been abused so much aswell as many religions. Islam is the only religion that hasn't been tampered with. You will never see a gay mosque.

I'm not gay bashing, I have gay friends. I came from a christian/catholic family, and I formed my own opinion on it.

Someone needs to slap mama, one of the first to post an answer to this question.

How can she say that gays can't be called Christians. Well, I'm sure that Mama is not sin free. How can she call herself a Christian when she also sins?

I will tell you that Christians are a big reason there is so much bigotry in the world. The very people who are supposed to be loving and tolerant and accepting are turning cold shoulders on those who don't meet their standards.

Some Christians have a very open opinion about the gay lifestyle, but for the most part, Christians condemn that crowd. I bet there aren't too many gays who open up and share their lifestyle with their church family. I bet they remain closeted within their own church.

A lot of Christian's actually believe it is against our God's law to be gay, but that doesn't stop gay people. There are more open churches who are ok with gay people, and I think that's fantastic. Maybe moslems are scared to come out of the closet.

Because Christianity is based on freedom. Christianity doesn´t have law authority over the civil rights of everyone. Muslim is based on severe law and religion at the same time. A Moslem won´t tell openly that he or she is gay because is against religion and law, so they could be punished in both ways.

First of all I thought it was "muslim" not "moslem" for some reason, but okay. 2nd...A lot of people call themselves Christians but are far from it. They aren't just hypocritical or struggling Christians, they aren't Christians at all. Many people have the opinion that believing in the God of the Christians and Jews makes you a Christian, but it does not. Also, there are scriptures in the Bible forbidding homosexuality, so it would be a sin therefore permanently seperating you a Christian from God unless repented (turned away from permanently) from.

There is a history of gay and lesbian lifestyles dating way way back. I think that regardless of your traditions or religion, there will be gay people. I think what we are truly discussing here is the fact that some cultures are more accepting of the behavior. And perhaps, not that I am positive of this, but perhaps, Muslims are more strict, and therefore, people are more like to stay in the "closet" about their true feelings. In a more accepting socitey, which believe it or not, US is pretty accepting compared to many other regions of the world, people are more likely to live the way they want to live. And so far, the US happens to have a Christian majority.

I am not aware of the majority of gay people are Christian. Maybe because you stay in the West and the dominate religion is Christianity. People from the East, I met a lot of gay people from many different religion.

There is no open opinion on this. It is against the will of God however we are taught that we cannot discriminate on these grounds. It is not our job to judge. For me if you are actively living a gay life then you can't be a Christian. You can't pick which bits you want to suit you. Doesn't work like that.
