To give carpet cleaners jobs (keeps em off the streets ya know).
Did you know carpets should be vacuumed daily? and wet cleaned at least 3 times a year....? sheesh.
And those dust bunnies we see on wood floors every week - well, they are on those carpets too, now just invisable.
Ever move into an apartment? Do you really believe the cleaners got all of the past tenants goo off the carpet? hee hee.hee
On a solid floor... one can definitly "see" clean, and you don't need Fabreeze to hide the odors (bacteria).
Just another industry to suck money from wallets.....looks great in Other Peoples houses tho.... (grin).
(carpet burns - with all that bacteria- my o my)

If you have young children it's much softer for falls. I have two young boys. One has already learned to walk, the other is just learning and I wish I had carpet with a good thick padding on it. My first son fell several times while learning and hit his poor little mouth on the hard floor and busted his lips on his teeth. I can't tell you how many hard bumps his head got from falling over on the floor. Plus.. when the youngest is old enough to really rough house with his brother they are going to be covered with bruises. I'm planning on getting carpet put down asap. Plus...it's about the cheapest way to cover your floors with instillation that I"ve been able to find.

I'm asking myself the very same question..... I have a cream carpet in my appartment fitted by the last people and I just can't keep it clean. Its fraying at the edges and its just hideous - who buys cream carpet for god sake! Laminate in the wya to go.
However, on a serious note, I think the actual point of carpet is to provide extra insulation for a room.

Carpet definitely makes the place cozierAnd also adds polish, poshness to a place. My home has a remnant, which is a piece of wall-to-wall('8x10','9x11'),and it makes our home look like one in a magazine, just like stepping into a hotel, where it's more polished and glam. We've had it over 10 yrs.;time to get a new piece.Ours cost $200 ea. piece w/pad underneath which cushions and keeps it from slipping.

Nothing but having a dustier and dirtier house no matter how often you clean it, carpets hold acarus and a lot more more microorganisms than a regular floor.

i have been living in Denmark for five years now, the first thing i noticed was, NO CARPETS, i think they have the right idea, also you take your shoes off at the door, so your house isn't full of **** from outside.
