Living in Scotland, my puppy isn't exactly used to hot weather, but we're having a random heatwave and the poor thing is sweltering. Other than providing a bowl of cold water, is there anything i can do to help her stay cool?

Perhaps I should point out, she is inside, as in the uk, dogs generally live indoors, as it's too cold to have them live outside, until we have a freak heatwave of course... and as someone pointed out, unfortunately we don't have A/C. thanks tho.

Water should ALWAYS be at ur dog's reach. I like to put a little bit of sugar in their water so that they don't get dehydrated. Also, i like to put a few icecubes in their water throughout the day, just a few pieces of ice cubes will bring the water temp down by a lot.
Grab a towel, wet it, and have ur dog lay on it. The electric fan helps a lot. My dogs lay right in front of the fan's gusts n love it. If u have the a/c on, let them chill out with u. Dogs like to lay in cool areas. So, maybe have ur dog lay on the kitchen tiles since there's no carpet. The coolness of the tiles/marble will cool ur dog off a little bit. I keep my guys indoors during the mid morning to mid afternoon, then let them out to play after the sun is behind other houses n trees.

If the dog cannot be brought inside make sure there is at least some shade.Put the dog in an area where any kind of breeze may blow.I have hooked up a fan for my dogs when there has been periods of 90 degree heat and high humidity. Just beware of the extension cord as some dogs will try to chew it, my fan was latched to the side of a roofed fence kennel and it worked well. Other dogs were moved to a shaded area where they could dig and lie in the cool dirt. Yes, make sure your dog has cool ,fresh water all the time. Texas Heat.

well, you could try wetting her down with a hose or a bucket and letting her stay outsied in the shade until she dries off if you don't want her inside wet. usually dogs will find a cool patch of grass or mud to lay in. do you have any shady trees in your garden? if she stays inside then maybe pick up a couple of fans and direct them on her whereever she decides to lay. you could also take her to the groomer and have her fur shortened to help her tolerate the heat wave in more comfort. fur grows back pretty quickly. It's a bummer they dont commonly have air conditioning in scotland and i can remember some really hot English summers. I now live in California and it is over a 100 degrees today and i have to leave the air on for my cats or they'd be melted by the time i got home. the air is costing me a fortune, but what can i do? cant have melted cats.

Water is the most important thing you can do for her, but ...
A) As far as fur goes, keep her brushed out, and don't let her hair get long.
B) What can help a lot, without making her very susceptible to cold, is shaving her belly bare. This cools a dog off tremendously in general. She can also lie tummy-up to cool off, but if it's cool out, she has the option of lying normally to stay warm.

Bring her inside the house where it's cool. She can suffer a heat stroke or heat exhaustion and dehydration even if you gave her a bowl of cold water. If you can't do that then find her a home that will let her inside.

The best thing I have found is to go and buy a cheap plastic kiddy pool and put it where the dog has access to it. Most dogs will love being in the water especially when it is hot.

Make sure that your puppy has shade, maybe a cool sheet to lay on, lots of water, maybe you could get her a little baby-pool and keep cold water in it. You may even be able to give your puppy a fan, just make sure that she won't chew on the cord, or just it out of reach.

You did not mention the breed of your dog ,but if it has a great deal of hair you can clip it down or have it done, that should help some . Let it play in water and perhaps blow a fan on it .. Hope one or all of these will be helpful.

Is she indoors? If no air conditioning put her in the tub with a few inches of cool (not cold) water. My dog loves it.
If she's outdoors, bring her in and follow above directions.
