I always have had a real close relationship with him and did not have a big problem with it as long as he did it at home and never in school or public which he agreed not to. I also heard that it is healthy for his immune system..rarely is he sick. But last week two boys in the neighborhood came over to see if he had gotten home from summer camp. They have to walk past the family room window to knock on the back door and so they glanced in to see if he was home. He had been home for about 15 minutes and was watching his favorite cartoon. At that moment he was deeply into the TV and unfortunately, his afternoon nose picking and eating. His friends watched it for several minutes and finally cracked up and banged on the window. My poor son was so ashamed because no one had ever caught him so "red handed" before. He swears he never does it in public. When I ask him if he wants to stop he says yes, but he still really likes doing it. Anyone out there (kids or parents) have this problem?

You can't really just suddenly make him not embarassed, so you will kind of have to just prevent another occurance. He can point out that everyone else has picked their nose but they will say they haven't in years. Try to teach him not to eat it. It's a bad habit. I seriously doubt that it helps his immune system, but it probably isn't bad. But I'm sure he doesn't like the taste, does he? Anyway, when you've picked your nose that long it's a habit, and you can't stand having stuff in your nose. Try to have lots of kleenex boxes all over the house. Encourage him to pick his nose WITH a kleenex, and get him to blow his nose a lot so that he doesn't feel the need to pick. Eventually he should get out of the habit, at least the eating part.

That should cure him - I bet he won't do it anywhere but the bathroom now!
He needs something like that to make him stop.
I bet he has more issues than just that of he is 10 and still doing it.

It is a digusting habit and it is probably a good idea to get him to stop. I don't think his future wife would appreciate your reasons for allowing it

tell him to stop.

eating buggies will not make you healthier

buggies are waste the body realeases with dirt caught before it entered the body. if your body needed it, it would soak it in not release it.

its a dirty habit period. incourage him to stop not eat it more
