How can anyone actually put their faith in ANY religion after reading about how it was formed? (With the possible exceptions of Buddhism and Hinduism, neither of which beseech their followers to go out and harm "non-believers" or threaten eternal damnation for non-belivers)

I've done a great deal of reading about how the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was formed, and the more I read, the more faith I have in it. Is everything you read in a book true? You know that just because something is written in a book it is not necessarily true. Many false statements have been made about the founding of the Mormon religion. That is understandable. There are a lot of people out there who are jealous of the rapid progress of the Mormon Church, and the good name that it has. In the early days of the Church the devil tried really hard to discredit it.

If you examine the history of early Christianity, starting from the time Jesus walked the earth, you will see a similar attempt to discredit the early apostles and even Jesus himself. Many lies were told about the Church until it came to be the state religion. All of this was to poison the minds of men, so that they could not put their faith in the Church.

Are you going to listen to what the enemies of the Church tell you to believe, or are you going to invested the truth by going to the source?

The way Mormonism was formed isn't any different (other than specific details) than how any other religion was formed.

For example, just as the angel Moroni spoke with Joseph Smith and revealed the Book of Mormon, so too did God speak with Moses and reveal the Ten Commandments.

One either has faith in these reported events or one doesn't.

The broader question is: How can anyone subscribe to a god that is obviously man made as a ticket to eternal life. As an exercise, imagine that your religion offered no afterlife (promise of heaven or threat of hell?) Would you still have interest. Much less, if any. What gives Christianity, Islam or any man- made religion any more credibility than Zeus or Neptune? Answer. Nothing. Mormonism is just as valid as being a Roman Catholic. Not at all.

You did not give example of what you mean. I will pick a few hotbuttons.

Just as believing in Islam require claiming corruption of the Old and New Testament, believeing in Mormonism pretty much requires the same discarding of scriptures, claiming them to be corrupt, many claims are at odds with the Biblical claims. Jesus is born not in Bethlem but Jerusalem in the book of Mormon as one small example.

I would doubt it given the way Joseph Smith was dabling with the occult using a divine rod to find trreasure when he enocuntered the spirits that he claims gave him the tablets he translated

Likewise the first Mormon church was a Mason lodge and it is organiaed in similar form as the Masons

I did not realize before reading The Godmakers that Mormons belieded God married a Mrs God and used to be mormons on another planet with its oown God. This woulds neo pagan to me

I believe the Utah mormons are more in this direction and the Missouri ones more in the direction of orthox chirstianity as far as God being the same yesterday today and forever so you cant overgeneralize Mormans differ form eachother

I am Mormon! I love it but I don't understand your question. What about how it was formed? If you have faith, you will know it is true. We have a spirit with us at all times and when you know the church is true your heart will tell you. Joseph Smith had the Lord( Jesus) to help him. He went into a grove in NY, and prayed to find out which church is true. Two personages came to him and said that none of them are true and he needs to start his own with the Lord's help. He had the gold plates to translate from. ANY further questions just email me or something.

The book of Galatians, interestingly enough....foretold the false prophet Joseph Smith's supposed "vision", and what would happen to anyone who harkened to this false vision. Galatians 1:8 and 9 repeat the same warning: "if we, or if even an angel from heaven, should preach unto you another gospel than what we have preached to you...let them be accursed".

Satan can disguise himself as an angel of light. I'm amazed this very obvious connection doesn't ring a warning bell in Mormon heads...but then, they read the false Book of Mormon, not the bible, as truth. This suff about gold plates and special glasses to read them? Please.

Excuse my annoyance...but too many nice people are caught up in this con.

One must study the founding of the church and then turn to God in honest prayer for an answer. That is how one will be able to acquire faith in the religion commonly referred to as "Mormon," but officially titled The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. God knows all truth and will impart it to any sincere asker.

Well, we maybe not so intelligence as the rest of you,
but I do believe LDS Mormon teaching is worth living.

I do not know how many of you actually practice our faith,or know enough to make a judgement.
As a believer for 30 many years I could say I never regret
one second of it, and I am glad to be called a LDS.

The said could be said for any religion. I mean, Jesus was a poor carpenter, yet you have sufficent faith to believe he is our savior. Joseph Smith was a poor farm boy, but my faith is enough to believe he was a prophet of GOd.
