right click on anywhere on your desktop. choose Properties. There will be a few tabs, Themes | Desktop | Screensaver | Appearance | Settings. Choose Desktop. there is a button that says Customise Desktop, click it. Under general, you can see Desktop Icons --> My Computer, My Documents, My Network Place, Internet Explorer. Check the box what you want to show on your desktop then click OK all the way. When you come back here, vote me for the best answer! Hehehehehe!

right click on the desktop
select properties from the pop up menu
choose desktop tab
click on customize desktop... button
then from the window that appears select general tab
enable the text box "my computer"
click on "ok"
then in the old(properties)window click on "apply" and "ok"

your settings in xp relieve the icon from the desktop. i have mine the same way. it can be accessed at the start button.
