My stepdaughter lies all the time and has since she first started talking. The whole family is a bunch of liars? I often wonder if it is in the blood. If so she comes from a long line of them on both sides. Do you think its in the blood?

I know how you feel, my stepdaughter is a liar too....I can't break her of it..I have threatened the police, jail, everything...Nothing seems to work...Her mom is a pathological liar...And she uses that to make people around her feel sorry for her...So I know where you are coming from and I have no answer yet...If you happen to figure out how to break the habit let me know...

I don't think that anyone is predisposed to be like members of their family when it comes to any part of personality. The only factor that effects your stepdaughter is the enviornment that she lives in. Behaviors are taught, they are not inherent. Also, people generally tend to lie when they feel uncomfortable or when they feel they need to get out a situation. Perhaps your stepdaughter is reacting to an uneasy family situation or household problem.

It is not hereditary. Nothing in the genes will tell that a person will be a liar or not. It is a matter of the people that she is around, the environment that she is is, her influence from her family members, and her upbringing.

actually yes!!!! If it's not corrected it becomes a habit! I swear I'm guilty at tI'mes just by telling my kids,If so and so calls just say im not home and now that they are much older they repeat the same thing when someone calls and they don't feel like talking!!!

Of course not. Its just an attitude formed as influenced by one's environment. But that bad habit, can, of course, be controlled by the person, himself.

I would think it's more the people she grew up around. I had the same problem and that's what I believe.

It can be. If it is linked to a mental or behavioral disorder that was passed down, then it is highly possible.

I would say she's a product of her surroundings. If everyone she knows lies, why wouldn't she?
