Check at your local state college. I know here in Indiana the state college does give diplomas to homeschooled children. It isn't a GED but an actual high school diploma. I believe you have to pass the standard testing for the state to get it but most homeschooled children get more education at home than they get at schools anyways. Good luck!

You may possibly need a GED diploma also to get into college. I know because when I went to college (I was homeschooled) Even though I had a high enough ACT (equivalent to SAT) to get in, and in fact it was high enough that I got a full scholarship, I still had to have my GED. It is really silly, but to go to a state college, the state must say that you are equal to a high school graduate, even if the school already knows that you are far advanced. I can tell you that you will have no problem with the GED test. Bob Jones curriculum is advanced of the public system, so you will think the test is quite easy. Good luck.
By the way, just for Arkie Moms knowledge, Myself and my brother and sister were homeschooled from kindergarten to 12th grade, and all received scholarships to go to college. My sister just graduated from The University of Mississippi with a 4.0 GPA, after finishing her degree in banking and finance. She actually finished in 4 years while working a full time job. I do not know of any homeschoolers who are not success stories, if their parents were serious about their education.

No. You need a high school diploma or a GED to get into college. Not all colleges even require an SAT score. The SAT is only there to show colleges the students ability. The diploma is still the key thing that gets a student into college.

It is true. Many many wonderful colleges and universities will now accept homeschool students without a diploma. She will need to work up a transcript with her grades, classes and curricula as well as a decent SAT or ACT.
You can contact your state Homeschooling organization if you need more info. but I would tell her to e-mail each of the colleges that she is interested in and see what their requirements are for homeschoolers.

Check HSLDA.org for your states graduation requirements. In nearly every state, the parents may issue a diploma. I did for my child. Most colleges go by test scores and transcripts. The diploma is just a piece of paper, no matter who issues it. Homeschooldiploma.com has great diplomas that you can order. Good luck!

All colleges I know of require a high school diploma. Some - but not all will accept a GED in its place. My suggestion to you is to make sure your mom changes curriculum so you are not in the same predicament when it is time for you to graduate. I am not a very big fan of home-schooling. There are some success stories - but in my 32 years in the field of education I have not experienced many. In our state you are required to submit your curriculum to the local school board and it must fit the state's guidelines before you are approved to be home-schooled. If procedures are not followed carefully and all appropriate documentation is in place - you could be in violation of your state's mandatory attendance laws. Please have her check in to this and good luck.

Many homeschoolers have to take the GED. But keep looking around, not just bju. There are other organizations that homeschoolers can graduate through, as long as you did all the work. :)

Probably depends on the college your trying to get into. If your thinking of going to somewhere like Bob Jones, or Pcc, Crown, or Ambassador- Bible colleges like that, I'm sure you will have no problem getting in, but if you are looking to go to a secular college, get a GED first. I'm sure it's no problem. Just explain to them your situation. You've got a better education than public school peaple anyway.
