You might want to check your house for allergens or even possibly mold. Is it a cough that brings up phlegm or is it just a try one? If it brings up phelgm, then you might want to get to the doctor.

Have the AC filters in your house been changed lately? You should change them every 3 months and use the ones that reduce allergens in your home.

Sounds like it might be coming from your surroundings.

Could be a new couch releasing fumes from the plastics of today.

Could be from paint if you recently painted the home.

If an old home and you have lived there for awhile. Could be the on set of mercury and lead posioning from the paint.

Could be from a home that is too sealed up, not enough fresh air.

Pay attention to when you have the coughs. In what rooms, what locations. Only at home, only in car, only when out of home, etc.

I had an apartment years ago that was making me sick and I never knew it. Was an old victorian house, was beautiful but after living there for a year I began to feel run down. Then even more so and depression kicked in, then a cough started. Then I always felt like I had the flu most of the time. But I realized that I felt better the longer I stayed away from home. After some tests I found out the apt was over loaded in lead paint from 100 years of painting and the craw space below my apt was solid mold. Between the mold spores and the lead it was making me past ill.

You might be having the same issues. Have a flood recently? Even have a bathtub run over real bad? Could have black mold growing in a wall making you sick.

Look for anything that has changed or that changed when the coughing started, etc. Somewhere there is a pattern and that pattern will lead you to the cause.

Since it is a cough I would guess it is an airborne problem.

Maybe it's Whooping Cough. Then you'll need a doctor's treatments and a vaccination to prevent it again.I hear it can return,or get worse and worse, and it spreads,as well as lasts a really long time.My mother had it when she was a kid back in the 50's-she said it was terrible, back then a vaccination didn't exist.

deffinately sounds like allergies, but to be sure i would go to a doctor and take an chest x-ray to make sure there is nothing else wrong, and then i would get tested for allergies. It may not be the smoke, it could be dust, mold, and a whole bunch of other things you cant see.

Well it could be numerous of reasons. How old is your home it could be something in the insolation of your home. I would if I were you, go to the doctors and get a chest x-rays on all of you to check yalls lungs. Good Luck, I hope everythings ok.

Air pollution
Allergies

Happening a lot here in Northern CA due to the heat, bad air quality and wildfires.

Is there mold in your home? What about air-borne allergens? Try getting an air cleaner for your home and see if that helps. Good luck!

Smoking? Mold? Pollen? Maybe your house was a meth lab? Have you seen the doctor about this?
