There are two sources of pain in your eye - #1 is your cornea which is what you feel when something gets in your eye and #2 is your ciliary muscle. This muscle controls the constriction and dilation of your pupil so when you are experiencing the pain from the glare it is this muscle having a sort of spasm at the unusually bright light. As mentioned above, a pair of polarized sunglasses will greatly reduce the glare given off from horizontal objects (lakes, streets, tops of cars, snow, etc). good luck

Get a good pair of prescription polarized sunglasses. Polarization eliminates glare off objects.

if you have astigmatism, you need to wear corrective eye glasses. See an optician immediately.
