Wake up, we do read our Bibles. Our children are required to read them, they even read them in Religion Classes, we have Bible studies. Stop arguing against us for something that has long been changed. Welcome to the year 2006!

Peace be with you.,
Debra

True story if you attend Mass for 3 years you will have heard the entire Bible read.

Our BIble is different only because yours was changed. We do not have references to unicorns and cockatrices. Think about it. The 7 books that are different are mostly History and some Proverbs like books.

The main thing is Catholics are not biblical literalists like most ofther christian religions...we are taught to study the bible for its underlying meaning and messages 9especially Catholics educated by the jesuits). other groups (baptists, for example) truly believe that what the bible says is LITERALLY true...so they get angry and say catholics don't read their bibles because we aren't literalists.

One other thing, if you take the bible literally how can you explain all of the direct contradictions? Especially between the old and new testaments...if its all true someone is lying somewhere!

most of that people who answered you are not Ctaholics. While most Catholics trust the wisdom of the priests and they (people) do not trust their own understanding.

And..which Bible are you referring to?

Catholics get to read portions of the Bible every mass. from the handouts given, and they hear the Gospel.

We know in history, the Romans have corrupted alot of practices and chose only the verses to be exposed to the people... but now the Catholic church has changed.

All men have free will. Nice question, but this is not the best way to encourage another person to read the Bible. Catholics, are the closest people who are encouraged to read the Christian Bible.

Unfortunatley, there are more and more people who are "Bible scholars" nowadays read the Bible to give arguments against the Christian faith.

I AM A CATHOLIC. But I am reading the Bible for many years, especially now. There is great spiritual benefit of reading the Bible (just make sure it's one of the right versions).. and don't just read it... do it.

I am Catholic and have read and re-read and read some more of the Bible and each time I do, I discover more and more of the truth of Catholic faith. Have any of you ever been to a Catholic Mass and listened to the first part, the Liturgy of the Word? We rely solely on the Bible, God's Word and I think if anyone out here wants to challenge this....go to a Catholic Mass and tell me then that we don't read in communion the Word of God, as well as being exhorted to read it personally as guided by the Holy Spirit.

I think you are making a statement and not asking a question here. But okay.

I think what peope may be getting at is that the RC Church does not use the same Bible the rest of Christianity does. They actually have their own Bible. Yes, it's very much like the regular Bible - don't get scared, but with some differences.

Because we can't randomly spout off quotes off the top of our heads to back up every single argument we have.

I think it's also supposed to be a jab at us because we do not view the Bible as the literal word of God.

Tell you what though, I might not be able to quote line for line everything I believe in the Bible, but from listening to the readings and the Gospels in church, I can retell just about every story in the Bible!

Granted, I don't know a lot of Catholics, but the ones I do know stop reading once they have finished their classes. Most of them don't even know most of the Bible, just those few things they were required to memorize as a part of their class.

Sure, you read it. But do you follow its message? Do you COMPREHEND what it says??

If you answered yes, then I ask how you can afford to sit on a PC preaching - after all, didnt your own Lord and Savior Jesus suggest that you sell all of your earthly possession to join him? Did he not say that money was the root of all evil and that a "camel would sooner pass through the eye of a needle than a rich man enter the kingdonm of heaven?" Yet you and your church have amassed wealth far greater than the "meek" you claim to represent....

It is because the Catholic bible is different than the protestant bible. Also the Catholic church has an ancient stigma among protests for restricting access to bibles. This goes back to Martin Luther's greviences.

The Catholics I've known are more in to their bibles than any other Christian.

Rosary beads and the whole shabang.

Do the Catholic schools allow you to be left-handed now?

It's all so sad....control those little children!!!
