I want to go to a new church. Now, I realize there are a lot of different denominations out there.
I want to ask it in two ways:
1. To what denomination should I go, and why?
2. To which denomination shouldn't I go, and why not?

Stay away from churches. They all lie.

Well I don't know much about denominations other than Baptists(bc thats what i am and how ive been raised) but it shouldn't matter the denomination so much as the doctrine they teach. I mean, if you have strong beliefs that are closer to what a Methodist would believe, look for a Methodist church, if Catholic, Catholic, or whatever. It isn't the same for all churches though. For exmple, the best doctrine I've ever heard has come from a Baptist church, but I have also heard of one where the pastor literally threw the Bible on the floor during his first sermon and said "I'm not teaching from that trash". But, most important of all, pray and ask God which church He is leading you to.

Only you can answer what church if any you should go to. You should perhaps first try a non-denomination church. Some denominations have lots of rules and rituals......others don't. some have more dogma than otheres. Ex. Protestant may be more ritualistic and strict than say an Episcapal one. Some churches will feel that it's their right to tell you how you should live. Others leave it up to you!
You might even find that church isn't for you! I find organized religion to be too much dogma. To me spirituality is more important than going to church and participating in organized religion. God/dess is everywhere! I prefer to go out into nature...hiking or camping! That is getting close to the Divine for me....looking at all the miracles of nature! But thats just me! It's up to you to figure out what is good for YOUR soul! Good luck! P.S. I'd stay away from any organized religion that says they are the TRUTH! Spiritual truth is different for everyone!

Well, I would recommend the Catholic church.
Why ?
Well, because it received the word of Jesus from Jesus Himself, 2,000 years ago. Follows Jesus' rules more closely. Has the Holy Sacraments, particularly the Confession, that gives you peace, knowing that your sins have been forgiven and forgotten.
Any inconveniences ?
Well, read the story of the Decameron, from Bocaccio, about the motives of the Jew Abraham.
This Jew had a friend who was Christian, and tried to convince Abraham that he should become a Christian. Finally, after many months of talking, Abraham told his friend that first, he would go to Rome to see with his own eyes the people of the Vatican.
In that time, everything was very corrupted, and the Christian thought that if the Jew went to Rome, he would never convert.
But Abraham insisted so much that finally he went.
When he returned, he told his friend that he had seen a lot of corruption in Rome.
The friend asked then: " That means that you will not become Christian ?
Abraham answered: "On the contrary, I will. If the Church grows in spite of those corrupted men, it means that the Spirit of God is there and they cannot destroy it."
You will see evil everywhere there are people. We are very imperfect. You will find perfection only in God

Find yourself first. Then, find a church that matches you. You shouldn't find your faith by hopping churches, you should first find yourself and establish your personal relationship with God. Only then can you go to a church of *any* denomination and truly know if that is the church for you.

Personally, I ascribe to spirituality over "religion". Religion is too prone to corruption and has a habit of causing a person to not grow further as an individual.

"Of all the systems of morality, ancient or modern, which have come under my observation, none appear to me so pure as that of Jesus. He who follows this steadily need not, I think, be uneasy, although he cannot comprehend the subtleties and mysteries erected on his doctrines by those who, calling themselves his special followers and favorites, would make him come into the world to lay snares for all understandings but theirs."
-Thomas Jefferson, Letter to WIlliam Canby (September 18, 1813)

Greek Orthodox is closest to the teachings of Jesus, but they're not all that easy to find. I'd find a good, Bible believing, Nondenom church that has a strong outreach ministry. Stay away from the cults like Jehovah's Witness, Mormon, and any that mis-identify Jesus as other than the Only Begotten Son of God.

And there's a LOT of good advice above, as well.

I am happy because of my Faith in Jesus Christ and his Atonement. Because of the things I learn at Church, I know that Families can live together again after this Earth, that there is a living Prophet on the Earth today, and that because of Christ's Atonement we can find peace in the most troubling times. if you are serious about going to church, then you want to go to a non-deominational church. All denominational churches have a few doctrines and traditions that break away from the Bible at some point....
and if you're still wondering...dip your toes in the water at one of these websites...

1). Doesn't matter about denomination...only born again Christians get into heaven.

2) Look for a Spirit filled church. One that urges relationship and not religion.

Religion is man's way of trying to reach God.

Relationship is God's way of reaching us; through Jesus Christ.

Grace to you and God Bless!

Catholicism is the right one. It is the original form of Christianity. The other denominations split away because they did not want to follow a certain part(s) oh Catholoisism. This is not right because it is not what Jesus wanted and you can't get fulll spiritual benifet if you are a protistant.

PROTISTANTS: I do not want your critisism. Thank you.
