First try to think if you have some gunk in there that started it. Like maybe conditioner or gell that never got rinsed out all the way. For major knots in adult hair, that is usually the cause.

IF you recall something like that try to loosen the knot then disolve the gunk: Try up all your other hair out of the way. Using a wide tooth comb try to "make some space in the knot" Don't try detangle, just loosen it. See if you can push the teeth of the comb down into the knot in a few places. Kind of like getting the "tine" of the fork into a knot in thread. It is a first step. If you can get the comb into a few spots try to spread the knot wider a little bit.

This should widen the knot into more of a net. Hold a plastic bowl inder the knot/net and pour some apple cider vinegar trough the knot/net. If you can, let it sit in the vinegar for a minute, this will help disolve any residue in there which can act as a glue.

After the vinegar gently pour a stream of water of the knot/net to rinse out the vinegar. (again over a bowl or in the shower.) Pat the knot/net dry with a towel, DO NOT RUB! this will introduce new tangles. Press it between your palms like you were drying flowers.

Use some Johnson & johnson detangler (for kids) or other "leave in" detangler to sprits the knot/net. Press the teeth of the comb into the knot again. This time try to separate the knot into three sections so it becomes 3 separate smaller knots. (or a different number if it seems to "want" to break up differently.)

Work the smaller snarls from the sides, A friend can really help here. The should be able to free a few hairs at a time from the sides, then using a smaller comb gentle try to loosen the net from the bottom. Then free a few more hairs from the sides with her fingers, then unlock the "crossing" hairs some more with the comb, loosening the net.

At some point the smaller snarl may be able to be broken into two smaller peices then it should be almost nothing to comb out.

After the snarl is all gone. Comb your hair straight through well.
Drench your hair in the shower. Apply a quarter sized amount of shampoo to your fingers and apply to your scalp. Work into a lather gently. Do NOT pile your hair on your head. Use the wide toothed comb to distrubte the lather down your hair.

Stand under the shower with your head tipped back to rinse. Do not flip your head forward, or let the water push your hair around or in your face.

Use the comb to ensure all the lather is out of your hair and no tangles have been introduced.

add a quarter sized amount of conditioner (for long hair) to the ends, not closer than 1 inch to your scalp. Rinse completely. It can take 5 times longer to rinse than to wash.

Comb as you go to ensure it gets all rinsed out. squeeze your hair dry with a towel, don't wring or srub.

Good luck.

Oh that's crappy. Um try dampening it with a quality detangler spray. Then with a wide toothed comb start at the base of the knot and work a little out at a time. If all else fails I can give you some cute hair cut idea :I

Try using detangler and/or conditioner in the area and slowly and gently work your fingers through the area to remove the snarl. If worse comes to worse... this is why God invented scissors.

You can try using olive oil. But failing that I suggest going to the hair dressers. I made the mistake of letting someone cut it out. Nightmare.

You may need to have it snipped out. It will come out if you start at the ends and work your way into the middle. don't try to get it out from top to bottom....use a comb and take your time.
