"Hispanic" means "of Spanish origin".

All Latin Americans (including Mexicans) are "Hispanic". BTW, Spanish people are mostly white, just like people in Italy, France and England.

In the States, people confuse race and nationality. "Hispanic" has come to be associated with the ethnical mix (Spanish plus Native American and African) ,which prevails in some Latin American countries, such as Mexico. Still, there are people of all races in Latin America: white, black, Asian, etc.

For example, Alberto Fujimori is an ethnic Japanese, but he's Peruvian. Carlos Gardel was actually French but he embodies the ideal Argentine man, etc.
