Police as an organisation? or police as individual officers? therein lies the first difficulty. As an organisation and as individuals of course the police are accountable. If there is evidence that points to an individual within the police he or she like any other member of society is prosecuted. The question is very subjective and without being specific cannot lend the author the answer he may want to hear.

It should be remembered that there are many low profile cases where officers or, occasionally, the organisation are indeed held accountable, in private and criminal cases. The more high profile cases are often the ones with more difficult legal issues and are never as simple as right and wrong.

The problem with high profile cases that have ongoing due process within the courts, then the police as a whole cannot comment or give any specific information prior to the court case. The only information available to the public before the court case can only come from highly speculative sources for example, the media. This is based at best on information gleaned from snippets and gossip sourced from "eye witnesses" roumour and hear say. No one will know the full account of any incident until after an inquest or full court hearing. All the information is then in the public domain.

I hope all of you remember your comments next time you hear a bump in the night and call the police to find out what it was (and i don't want to hear any smack about you finding out on your own, I'm talking about a real intruder that wants to hurt you). The police are not your slaves, they have a job to do and they do it. Yes some officers fall through the cracks and ruin it for others but the vast majority are good people who want to help others. Stop blaming your surroundings for you incompetence

the police are the enemy of the people thats why. the police feel they are above the law and only choose to enfore the law of the land for a select few rich white people. the police are the tools used to oppress the " lower class "
the police have killed more then 44 people in that time period also.

There are some that pay but the boys in blue stick together and who do they really have to answer to?? There is more corruption and crap you can shake a stick at. There are also some great police but they are afraid to talk because of the corrupt ones turning on them. I think the whole government needs a re- vamp.

Police personnel do get away with a lot --usually minor things like speeding, but that statement is not anywhere near the truth. I have seen/heard of a lot of officers get in trouble. Even if they're not prosecuted, they're fired or persuaded to resign. (I personally know of 2.) Anywhere you see them getting away with something major/serious...then look for corruption not only in the department, but in the county/city government as well. Luckily, I've never worked for an agency that was corrupt.

I assume you are talking about the Stockwell shooting, and the CPS's decision as pronounced today.

The CPS made it clear why they didn't feel there was a case to answer as far as individual police officers were concerned; and that, in this case, there was not a "crime" as such.

Because they think they are above the law. When in fact all they are, are revunue agents for the state. Think about it, if they werent revunue agents, then why would they have quotas on the amount of tickets they have to give out each month?

bcoz like in any star trek(ds9,voyager or tng) they are the borg "you will be arrested resistance is futile" (they think their asses are fire proof, but some1 is developing a flame thrower just for them) if you or i had shot jean charles Demenezes we would have been arrested tried &inprisoned by now, if a black person had done it they wld`ve been arrested tried & hanged b4 he`d hit the ground the fact he was on the ground only highlights the facts.

Stephanie - Saying all cops are crooked is about as stupid as saying all people named Stephanie are morons. Though in your case, it seems to be true.
