But my insurance doesn't cover the root canal or the crown and post. So the fee becomes a reduced fee of whatever the dentists (2 in my case) wants to charge, which is around $1600.00. I can't afford that. But I am in extreme pain and take medication for the pain twice a day everyday for the past 2 weeks now. I can't afford to pay for this and I can't save up the money either cause of bills and childcare. What can I do?

depends on which tooth it is if it is in the back of the mouth then maybe your best option is to have the tooth taken out if you can't afford it or if they can't give you a payment plan.

Find out if the dentist has a payment plan. If not, find one who does! They will probably expect at least 10% up front. Do whatever you can to get the money to pay a down payment. Tooth issues can lead to other very serious health problems. Your children need you to be healthy.

After the procedure is finished, make payments that you can afford, regardless of what the "agreed to" plan was. They won't be able to report it to a credit bureau unless you are seriously behind and do not make any payments for a long time. Pay $10 a month if that's all you can afford.

Talk to your dentist about a payment plan. Depending on the kind of insurance you have, you may be able to work something out with them as well. Root canals and crowns are no fun...I have both!

Well, you could have the tooth pulled. If it's not in the front, it wouldn't be too horrible, I guess, and it's a heck of a lot cheaper than root canal.

Many dentists will arrange a payment plan for you, so that you can pay over time.

If you want to keep the natural tooth, this is what you might want to do.

Good luck!

Contact your local dental school/university. Often they do work for a LOT less money as they don't have overhead fees to pay.

That is some crappy ins. They should cover some of it. You should call the ins and ask to talk to a manager.
