I have used the machine for about a week, but can not stay asleep with it on for very long? How long does it take to adjust to these things. I am determined to use it.

My husband has one. It will take a while. You may need an adjustment. Is it an auto tytration (sp?) How are the strap? Are they too tight? Check those again. My husband still sometimes will take it off in the middle of the night because he can't breath. He has allergies. Give it some time. When you get use to it, you will feel better. Hang in there. ;-)

Keep using it & it'll get better. My sister has a CPAP machine & complains about the mask all the time. It must stay on at all times or you'll stop breathing & could possibly die. Think I'm kidding? I'm not. In March when my sister was here overnight, she took off the mask & tossed it onto the floor. She stopped breathing several times & would only start if I poked or jostled her a tad. Around 3am, she stopped breathing altogether. I grabbed the mask on the floor & put it on her in about 2 seconds. She started breathing again immediately & woke up angry with me. I'm just glad she woke up & could yell at me for interrupting her sleep. We don't live together so I don't know if she's using hers all night as she should or not.

If the mask bugs you, try adjusting the straps for a slightly looser fit. If it's too loose, it'll fall off & be ineffectual.

CPAP is inherently uncomfortable. You'll either breath better and therefore sleep better or you will be so uncomfortable that you won't sleep and it will be useless.

If the CPAP fails, try a tracheostomy... at least temporarily. It will save your life and is much easier to adapt to.

My grandfather was recently diagnosed with sleep apnea and has the machine. He said it helps him sleep better, and he also has put water in the machine which also helps.
