Well, as far as what to put on the shirt... I would just put something simple stating that you love him, miss him, cant wait for him to get home, that he is the best, etc. I would probably also add a few decks of cards, maybe some poker chips, a crossword puzzle and/or a book to read as well as pictures, pictures, and more pictures. As they say, a picture says a million words! Let it be something that when he sees it he will know that you and the kids were thinking of him and when someone else sees it they realize just how loved he is and that he must have someone really special in his life to think of making him a gift like that. As far as what else to put in the package with it... Hmm... Im guessing non perishable food items might be good. Perhaps some hard candies, bubble gum, licorice, beef jerky, peanuts, chex mix. Maybe he could use some "good" personal hygiene products such as body wash or soap, shampoo, deodorant, or even some cologne. You dont have to go extravagant or anything but think of the things that will make his face light up when he opens the box! I hope this helps you a little! Take care!

I used 8 1/2" X 11" index paper for each calendar page and the cover. The mini borders for the poems and the small calendars are from the Print Shop program. The children's hands were painted with tempera paint and stamped on the top half of each page.

The poems were printed on the left bottom and the calendar was on the right bottom of each page. A punch and bind machine finished the top edge. This handprint calendar idea was adapted from one at http://www.abc123kindergarten.com. There is a new addition to this calendar, a touching poem written by Amy Ethridge of Meridian, MS.

She suggests using this as a second page or you could attach it to the envelope you use to send the poem home. Her poem and a photo are right below the cover page.

As far as a special saying, just speak from your heart. And for the care package, we sent little things like candy bars, comic books, real books, socks, and things they can not get at the px or in town. Photos from around your town of anything new that was not there when he was deployed and pics of the family are a good thing to send as well as a homemade cd/dvd telling him how you feel and how much you and the kids miss him would be great also.

Maybe put WE LOVE YOU on the shirt and picture drawings from the kids in the package. Maybe a "special" letter just from you with a love poem included and how much you miss and love him. That would be great..Hopefully this gives you a few ideas..put a lot of love into it and you can't go wrong!!

Hi - I don't have any additional suggestions for this (it's late and I'm too tired to be creative) but I do think that it's a lovely idea. I sent you an email that you may not have received (or may have dumped thinking it was from some crackpot!) about your response to a soldier-photo question.

Apparently we interpreted that questioner's motives very differently. I think she was asking about something very different. I'd really like to know if the website link that I gave her is offensive in some way to our soldiers. It seemed to me to be exactly the opposite.

Thanks --- How about having the hand prints holding hearts and saying something about holding him in your heart until you can hold him in your arms?

As for the saying for the hand prints I would suggestsaying something like, "Though you are not here, you still touch our hearts" or "From our hearts, reaching out to touch yours". Also send recent pictures, spray whatever perfume he likes to smell on you on a piece of clothing that he is familiar with, and send it to him, send his favorite sweets, or non-perishable foods, magazines, etc. Wish you and yours the best, and a safe and happy return!

Cookies, candies, snacks - When I was in college my grandparents sent care packages with snacks in them. That was so nice.

How about a home video of you and the kids?
