Don't let your cat out. Keep him or her inside, it's much safer.

When you feel that the cat is comfortable with its surroundings, and won't run away or hide. This is different, depending on the cat. One of my cats has been going in and out since she turned up on my back porch at age 6 months. On the other hand, my other cat hasn't gone out yet at one year old, and probably won't reach that point for years, if ever.

Personally, I don't think any "pet" should ever by outside unless on a leash or in a safe enclosed area such as a screened porch. Think about how you would feel to see your cat flattened by a car, or poisoned from eating something and dying alone under a bush somewhere. Really, think about it. Be a responsible pet owner. Save a life.

For the best health and welfare of a cat of any age - KEEP THEM INDOORS!!
They have no real need to go out and comune with nature. Cats are domesticated. If you take proper care or them, including spending time playing with them - there is NO need to go outside.
What CAN happen to cats let outdoors................ hit by car, attacked by dog, or another cat, get lost and starve, be picked up by someone and sold to a research lab, taken by some demented person and tortured and killed just for entertainment.
In short - there is NO good reason to let your cat outdoors - not if you love them.

Cats should not be let out. There are too many diseases that there are no vaccines for. Also, if you had ever seen the results of a real cat fight you would probably be sick

You shouldn't let your cat out.
The average lifespan of an outdoor cat is 3 years, compared to about 18 years if they are indoors.
If you love your cat, keep him/her indoors. And spay/neuter it!

Cats are very independent and seldom go out anyway. Just leave it be. Let it do what it wants.
