Ok there are many types of birds that can make great pets. In Just the united states there are over 400 species of birds as pets to choose from. from ostriches to toucans, to finches, and macaws. there are possiblilities.

A pretty bird would be a macaw, they are the largest and one of the noisier parrots that require a high fruit and nut diet. Or an Amazon, they are very opinionated and are very loud and colorful but are talented talkers and will talk in front of an audience. Or a quiet pretty bird with a small size is Ringneck parakeets, such as mustache parakeets, and alexandriane parakeets.

An outgoing bird would be a cockatoo they can be helpd by strangers if raised correctly, and love to be held and touched, but they have high attention requirements and need to be taught self rewarding behavior from a young age and tend to be loud. They require a lot of time and care to be well socialized and independant. My Goffins Cockatoo Coconut loves attention and dances when she wants it. its amazing at what a great length they will go to get attention.

African Greys are prized for their ability to speak and do well. My African Grey Max will learn a new whistle in just a few days , and a new word in a week.

The BEST beginner birds are cockatiels, Lovebirds, Doves, and mustache parakeets.

Cockatiels- They are affordable long lived, and can learn to talk. They are very friendly and love to be pet and have their neck scratched.

Lovebirds- contrary to popular belief they do not to be kept in pairs, and seem happy by themselves playing with their toys. They love to play and be held. And thrive on attention.

Mustache Parakeets- They are my favorite beginner bird, they are small friendly and are happy to be held and played with

Doves- Ringneck doves are the best, they love to be held and will coo happily to be held by you when you come home.

your entitled to think whatever bird you think is best, one specie may have a ddesired behavior you like or a certain trait that appeals to you.

Whatever bird you decide to get or think is best do your research on it and learn as much as you can.

Strive for 2 hours of one on one social interaction and polaying everyday. And provide a diet with lots of fresh fruits and veggies.

It really depends on what you want from your bird. If you want a bird who sings then Canaries are nice and have great song. If you want a bird who can talk you can get a parrot. Parrots can be a lot like having a toddler though. You have to be prepared to spend lots of time with them. Also keep in mind that some birds live a very long time. We have always gotten cockatiels. They are very affectionate and they sing their weird little songs and play. They are not as prone to eating the wall as a parrot. But like parrots they must have toys and things to chew on. Parakeets are fun too. Remember, birds are like other pets, they need interaction with you and they need toys and play time. Go to the public library and check out some books about birds and then go to the pet store and see what kind you like that will help you find the best one for you. Also, I have found that the best bird for me was the one who picked me. It's the birds who came over to me and didn't want me to leave without them. :)

Cockatiels are great little birds.
They can live over 30 years, and handraised ones enjoy being petted.
Cockatiels are small, so buying a cage isn't a huge expense.
Cockatiels eat pretty easy-- they are one of the few species of psittacine that can actually do good on a mostly seed diet.
They have alot of personality!

I personally prefer the white dove. also known as a white ringneck dove or peace dove. I have one and she is such a wonderful bird. She gives kisses. she lays her head on my cheek and we talk. When I come in the door she will coo at me and I answer her back.. and at times we have sat for 20 minutes or more just cooing at each other. SHe loves to fly around the livingroom and she also likes to sit on my shoulder or lap and watch tv with my husband children and I.. SHe is excellent with my dog.. who allows her to sit on her head and doesnt snap at all at her. They are rel;atively clean birds and not noisy at all. The cooing they make is more relaxing and it isnt in the slightest screechy. It is pleasant.
Doves are very human friendly birds that love to be handled and spoken to. I hope this helps some.
