I'm so sorry. It is really hard to loose a loved one. That is what these animals are. When we bring them home and provide them with the small necessities they give us so much more, and they are in our hearts forever. You will always miss this special cat, but eventually the sadness and grief will be lessened or replaced and you will have your good memories of this loved one to recall. Going to your local animal shelter and saving another cat, can help a great deal. Good luck.

You can start by not listening to Heather usually bad answers, she has told everyone they are wrong without giving any real help. she is in this for the points and to rip into people.

Now, how to deal with it.
It appears you have no real memories of your cat except you have the feeling of loss. I would say to you, when you feel like you are ready to give a pet the care it needs then go out and get a new one.
On the same token. You have not really missed this one for a year so I would say, it could be that you have many things happening in your life and a pet is not a good thing to have.
Let it go and move on, crying is good but you need to relax.

My cat ran away, also, but she came back after being gone for 3-4 months, so I'm not going to say ther is no hope. My advice is let yourself grieve, and then head down to the local shelter...there is likely a wonderful cat there for you to love.

And ignore all the people who are saying stuff about indoor/outdoor cats. I've had both, and the outdoor were much more healthy and happy.

Honey, are you sure the cat felt he was yours?

It may very well be that he belonged to himself and to nature and felt that he will just feed and fend for himself and live a happy life. As far as I know, cats are not incredibly attached to people unless they find them an easy source of food and warm companionship. If he lived outside, he probably moved on. Do not take it too personal; I am sure you love(d) him a lot, but he has made a new life for himself... or passed away. It is also good to mourn now that you accept he will not return....

Time for you to also move on...probably. (I am no psychologist, but can partly understand how you feel, since my 14 year old cat passed away in her sleep two days ago). Hang in there! Deal with it by focusing on keeping busy constructively.

Ps: I just read your other questions and want to add that he was probably getting a raw deal in terms of territory with neighborhood cats. If he could not sort this out, he would definitely move on...

IRISH GLOW needs to get a life. he such a pessimist. Cats are one of the greatest joys in life. When i lost mine, i cried for days, but she showed up last year! I live in New England, where there are fisher cats, and i was like really scared for my cat, but she made it alive and came home without a scratch! Dont give up hope! If you still have sadness problems, see your doctor and see if he can get you some depression pills. Losing somthing that important in your life can really mess you up. Good luck and dont give up hope!

I'm sorry that your cat has gone. Hate to say it at a time like this, but *indoor* cats lead much safer, longer and healthier lives.

Yeah, your cat is gone for good.
You shouldn't let your cat live outside, you probably killed him by letting him out.
You were a bad owner, shame on you for killing your cat.
