They say it helps with cholesterol. I haven't had to do it, but I know that's one reason for cutting back on salt.

The other thing is that it keeps you from retaining so much water.

I stopped adding salt to "season" food some years ago but I do not necessarily avoid salty foods. The most noticeable thing was how I became aware of how much salt is already in everything. I can taste it.
Don't miss the salt.
Not sure of any particular health benefits, blood pressure was always good and cholesterol has dropped (but could be for many other reasons).

After a good sweaty workout, you should not cut down on salt. However, normally I don't add extra salt to my food. Makes you feel good.

If you have an iodine deficiency, iodized table salt is one of the best sources of it. I stopped adding salt to my food when I was 12. No problems here. (If it is cooked in as a part of the recipe, I understand why it is there, but if you are adding it at the table, either you are addicted to it, or someone doesn't know how to cook.)

Because salt is sodium and that absorbs water leading to excess bloating and water gain, I've tried to cut back on salt. It's helped me to keep control of these d*** lovehandles!

I use a salt substitute. Salt retains water in your body and makes you bloated. And I believe it causes high blood pressure too.

I lost alot of 'water weight' and learned to actually taste my food. Salt seems to overwhelm flavors, but pepper accents them. Funny I know, but I have almost no salt and I'm happy. It took some getting used to, but I feel healthier.
