This is a difficult question. Is Catholics are Christians, then why do they insist upon calling themselves Catholics? Isn't true Christianity supposed to be non-denominational? Further, why do Catholics insist upon NOT studying the bible (in fact they prefer young Catholics to not read it as, "it will only confuse you") and instead fall back upon church dogma?
Remember a couple of important issues, the bible states that there are apostate churchs intended to mislead people and there's no such thing as "CHRISTIAN faiths", there is only ONE Christian FAITH.....

First of all, I am Christian. Some Catholics are Christians, some aren't. Some Christian aren't really Christian. If you are Catholic, but you dont read your bible, go to church, pray (beyond memorized prayers), then you are neither Catholic, nor Christian. I always say, I don't follow a religion because I don't. I follow Jesus Christ. He is the one I put my faith and trust into for salvation, food, air, my job, and everything else I do. Not the Church. By the way, the people are the church, not the building or institution. If any church says you have to join them to be saved (specifically ) then I am very skepitcal about their understanding of scripture (or even if they know any). It is not a way to discount religion, it is a way to separate it from religion. Most people (myself included) come from different denominations. The history of the Christian church is too long to go into. Check out www.carm.org for more in depth analysis. And your final question, no they are not a variation of the baptist church. Though I am not exactly what the question is asking. :)

I asked that question too and many seem to believe so many lies about us Catholics. I believe that all Christians are called to live in peace with each other. I can not say what another church teaches as I do not know. I ask the same regarding my church.
Catholic means Universal.

Most conservative Christian scholars consider the Catholic church a pseudo-christian cult. Ouch!!, yes and for good reason. There are enough false teachings in the Catholic church to make it very suspect. Few churches today are trying to clean up their own house, unfortunately the Catholic church is not one of them.

Are Christians supposed to pray to a dead person?
Or a statue?
Do statues cry?
Or bleed?
What makes your water holier than my water?
What will Peter say when he finds out he was the first "pope"? Didn't Peter and Paul both defer to the authority of the church in Jerusalem, which was being led by James the brother of Christ?
Why didn't Paul tell us that the head of the church was the pope? Didn't God reveal that to him? Why did he tell us that the head of the church is Christ?
Didn't Jesus tell us not to call any man on earth Father? Didn't He explain to us that God is our spiritual Father, and only God was to be addressed as "Father"?
Didn't Joseph ever make love to his wife, not once?
Didn't Mary ever have sex with her husband? Not EVER?
Was Mary's mother a virgin when she concieved Mary?
Does bread and wine actually turn into real flesh and blood? Isn't that rather gross?
Would Jesus die to save humanity from sin, and then inflict His wounds on His most precious children? Isn't that rather cruel?
Are these questions ridiculous?
Do Catholics actually believe all or most of these things?

The church is within every denomination throughout the entire world.
We who are in Christ Jesus have become a “new” creature (Gal.6:15, 2 Cor.5:17 below). We have BECOME the church of God (1 Cor.10:32, 1 Cor.1:2, 1 Cor.15:9, Gal.1:13 below), Jesus’ living body (Col.1:24 below).
No matter which denomination one attends, the living body of Christ is there.
Gal.6:15For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature (2 Cor.5:17 below).
2 Cor.5:17Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature (Gal.6:15 above): old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
1 Cor.10:32Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God:
Col.1:24 Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for His body's sake, which IS the church (1 Cor.10:32 above).
1 Cor.1:2Unto the church of God (1 Cor.10:32 above) which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both their's and our's:
1 Cor.15:9For I am the least of the apostles, that am not meet to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God (1 Cor.10:32 above).
Gal.1:13For ye have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews' religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God (1 Cor.10:32 above), and wasted it:
Eph.2:16And that he might RECONCILE BOTH (Jews and Gentiles) unto God IN ONE BODY (the church of God - 1 Cor.10:32 above) by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:

It is suprising, but many Christians do not consider Catholics (and I am one myself) to be "true" Christians because of the role of the Pope in the Church.

I believe there are most likely truly saved people in both protestant and catholic Christianity, but no one is perfect.

i'm a born-again christian, i do believe that catholics are part of teh christianity part but arent christians. they DO believe in God, but they have so many wrong teachings. Did you know that most people who are bad claim they are catholic? Like people in gangs, people who get into fights, people who kill other people... etc.
