I got a new pc, it comes with it. However, do I have to pay the subscription after 1 year or so??? Are those updates free?

You probably got a free trial. Yes, you'll have to pay a subscription fee eventually. Unless you have comcast high speed internet, then you can get it free through them.

My computer also came with a "Free Trial" though what they neglected to tell me was that the trial software was not as good as what you can buy. I wonder how vulnarable my computer was during that trial. I ended up going with it after the trial but after that year was up, they automatically charged by debit card for the next year's service. I called them and was livid that they would do this. They reimbursed me and within days, AOL announced their Security Edition that included McAffee as part of having AOL so I upgraded to that. The updates are included throughout the year whenever they load it to your computer and are automatic. I have not been happy with McAffee or AOL though so I will be switching soon.

trial version is free. you have to pay for one year subscription which is renewable every year. the updates during is subscription is free but one has to download it from their site
