the pre-lude was 9/11 attack on America. Act I was the US invasion of Iraq.

Act II will be a middle east conflagaration around Israel,Palestine,Syria,Iran axis.

Act III - while US is busy defending Israel, North Korea will take the opportunity to invade the South and China will takeover Taiwan...leading to nuclear showdown similar to the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Act IV - will be the breakdown of the "system", loss in confidence of US economy, long gas lines at the pump, Constitutional rights abolished

Act V - the end...who knows how it will end, but Einstein said World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones....

I think we ARE in the third world war. Just look around, how many countries have to live together with foreign soldiers, whom try to deffend the country, or change the political system of the country. The WWI was different in strategy from the WWII, and that third one, can be called as the war against terrorism, is different again. There will be no a war never ever like the WWII, that is good. But the basic conflict, that coused the two war are still exist.

And it is based on economy. The leading powers need new markets, but the economy of the western countries works the best in societies where the democracy is the political system, and where the people learn to pray for mony instead of god, where everyone is so addicted to own the new tools, that they buy everything without real reason.

So western type democracy is the future, or at least that what the leading powers try to force to fundamentaly different cultures. But these cultures will always try to protect their values, and there will be some extremist groups in every countrie, who become terrorists.

Yes, I think, this is a world war, that has casaulties on both sides, remember for example to the conflict of Izrael and the Hezbollah, that flames since the weekend, or the Somalian conflict, that is based on the conflict of the previous colonial countries, not to mention the Afhgan and Irakian war.

And yes, there will be a forth one as well, because we are human.

Not very likely.

The previous world wars were fought by expansionist regimes (trying to unitet he world), and countries trying to stop them.

Right now the only a couple of countries could do that and those countries seem to be more interested in not rocking the boat and maintaining as much of the status quo as possible.

What you need as a start for WW3 is either a group of islamic countries, China, or the US invading another country unprovoked and the world rising up to stop them. THAT will not happen soon. What may happen is that the middle east decides to push Israel into the sea, and the US having to formulate an answer to that. I just hope Bush will be smart enough to recognize that lost cause.

Because the middle east is fairly fragmented, the above scenario appears unlikely.

I think (hope) that with current diplomatic relationships WWIII won't happen.

Yes, plus the problem now with Israel attacking Lebanon. We are definitely going to have another World War- it's just a matter of time. I think that your point is that it's sooner rather than later- I agree.

I don't like the idea of war, but sometimes, it's a necessary evil. Some people just refuse to listen to reason. If our problems cannot be solved using diplomacy, then what else may we do?

Personally speaking, I would not want to serve in the armed forces. If I were drafted or something, I would be a conscientious objector.

War is pointless - let's invite the bad guys to just move in and take over here. They probably would do a lot better job. Maybe kill 4 or 5 hundred thousand American citizens - take away all our rights and make slave girls of all the women. Sound like a good plan to me. But war is pointless.
