IF YOU ARE TRAVELING FROM THE STATES I'D DEFINITELY LOOK INTO TRAVELING TO PUERTO RICO. IF YOU STAY SOMEWHERE OTHER THAN SAN JUAN THIS CAN BE AFFORDABLE VACATION DESTINATION. TRY THE FAJARDO AREA IF YOU ARE LOOKING TO DO DAY TRIPS SUCH AS VISITING THE EL YUNQUE RAIN FOREST, TAKING A SAILING /SNORKELING TRIP OR IF YOU LIKE TO VISIT ONE OF PRS BIO-BAYS. IF YOU WANT TO RELAX AND SPEND TIME ON THE BEACH HEAD WEST AND STAY IN RINCON. VILLA COFRESI IS A GOOD CHOICE FOR A 1ST TIME TRIP. I HAVE BEEN VACATIONING HAPPILY IN PUERTO RICO CONSECUTIVELY FOR 10 YEARS. IF YOU TRAVEL OFF SEASON BETWEEN JUNE AND OCTOBER IT WILL BE EVEN MORE COST EFFECTIVE. HERE ARE SOME WEBSITES FOR YOU TO EXPLORE.

I have visited many Caribbean Islands and also Mexico and I have to agree with the above. Go to the Atlantis in the Bahamas. Both you and your children will love it. There is so much to do there that revolves around the kids. It is also a very classy place with lots of aquariums, shallow clear beaches, pools, Fish and Shark Reefs, turtles, birds, a lazy river. I would suggest you spend the money on a food package. It may seem expensive when you book it but trust me, the food is very expensive there.

With small children, I would recommend the Playacar area in the Mexican Riviera. This is not an island, but is on the Yucatan peninsula/Cairbbean. There are many all-inclusive family-friendly resorts here. Many are quite affordable, and very nice. Many have lots of activities for small children. Beaches are very lovely.

Consult a knowlegeable travel agent. They will have many recommendations for you. One of my favorite affordable resorts in this area is the Sunscape Aventuras.

Please check out Atlantis in the bahamas it is out of this world I just got back with my two girls. There is everything to do and it is the safest island in the carribean besides the cayman island but a whole lot cheaper. They are running specials all the time so make sure you shop but you wont ever want to come back. I am also a travel agent for the pigeom forge gatlinburg area in tennessee. Check it out you love it I Promise
