I have a lot of dates and things of my grreat grandfather, I even found records of him coming here in Ellis Island, but I can't find a death certificate...Where do i go for that?

Depending on when he was born and died I would also check the Social Security Death Index to find the last place he was. You should also check the Court House where he last resided to see if there was an Estate opened, these are public records and they should have his death certificate on record.

for the death certificate you may have to check the public records of the town or city that he died in.

You go to the county he died in for his death cert, although they were nor required until 1880 - 1920, depending on the state.
