They have been misled by the priesthood. No where in the Bible does it say that we are to pray to Mary. this is idolatry. The Catholics believe that Mary was translated and did not die. This is extra-Biblical, meaning it is an idea that is outside of the Bible. the Bible says that we are not to pray to people or things, or angels or images---this is idolatry and God hates it because it takes attention and devotion away from him. Idols are dumb---the Bible says so. Idols can do nothing for a person---they are of the devil. I do not understand the Catholic Church's insistence that Catholics involve themselves in this kind of pagan worship. Jesus loves them anyway.

I think the real question is "Why do Catholics not pray to God?" That is what I would ask... and I asked a Catholic once. Granted she was not a very good Catholic, but the answer was simple enough to draw a conclusion from. It seems to me that it is more of a ritual. Pray to the one person on earth that was saintly enough to care for the incarnation of God's Son. Then there is this idea that Christ/God will do whatever His "mother" tells him to do. In a way, Catholics have given Mary "god hood" when she is just a human like anyone else.
The verse you have quoted does not quit mean what you think though. That verse means that we will not enter heaven or be saved unless we go through Jesus. Once we have accepted Christ, then we are free to go straight to God the Father at any time. This verse is more to say that you cannot be saved by works, blood lines, or other gods.

Catholics in fact do both.
And so for that matter do you. Have you ever asked someone to pray for you? Then you've shared the exact same prayer philosophy as catholics.
All Marian prayers like the Hail Mary ask of her is that she pray for us. While "Hail Mary" may acknowledge the favour shown to Mary by God ("blessed are you among women" which Elizabeth said to Mary in the Gospel of Luke), they do not offer worship, which is due God alone. Instead Mary is asked to "pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death."
The prayers of the liturgy and the liturgy of the hours, however, are prayers strictly directed at the Father through the Son. More often not, a catholic is praying the same way you do...
As for the statement that Jesus made, "No man comes to the Father except through me," Catholics believe that wholeheartedly. Only through the sanctifying grace offered up at Calvary is there any hope for us.
But having faith in Christ means worshipping him alone. That's not necessarily the same thing as prayer. Not all worship is prayer and not all prayer is worship, since the word "pray" means "to ask." And you do this anytime you ask a friend for intercessory prayer, just like us with Mary.

do you mean through? Jesus MEANT with his statement this- no one will attain enlightenment and never have to incarnate again- unless they live their lives the way he did.
Catholics pray to Mother Mary because she works.
I was brought up a Catholic. The Trinity goes as follows-"Father, Son, Holy Spirit." BUT- where there is a son, and a father, a mother must beget that said son.
If you look back to other religions, they have Divine Children as well, only they do not forget about the mother, who held that divine child inside herself for nine long months and then went through the excruciating pain that is child birth. Do you honor your father more, because he inseminated your mother, or do you honor your mother more because she held you in her womb?
Mother Mary is a divine Goddess, and she walked just as surely as Jesus did walk. I'm sure she wept, as well.
Signed, a recovering Catholic and Proud Pagan
To those who will say to me that I am going to hell- I will see you there, friend! Blessed be

Because the catholics are misleading the people all in the name of money. I was a catholic for 11 years and I've heard all their lies. They don't even teach about salvation through acceptance of Jesus as their savior. They are spending all their time going against the word of God instead of practicing it. The word of God tells us not to worship idols and they pray to the statues of mary, joseph etc. They are bunch of liars who will be held accountable for misleading so many people.

Catholics and many other Christians believe in the Communion of Saints where all saints are intimately related in the Body of Christ, a family. When you die and go to heaven, you do not leave this family.
Everyone in heaven or on their way to heaven are saints. You, me, my deceased grandmother, Mary the mother of Jesus, and Mother Teresa.
As part of this family, you may ask your family and friends here on earth to pray for you. Or you may also ask the Blessed Virgin Mary, Saint Andrew, or your deceased grandmother in heaven to pray for you.
With love in Christ.

You are abolutely correct. Jesus is the mediator between man and God because he is the one that opened up prayer through his ransom sacrifice and the exercising of faith in it. Some people believe that Mary occupies this position. But it is not correct according to the Bible.

We pray Jesus and ask Mary to pray for us.
Cute Joke:
One day Jesus looked around Heaven and found several people there that He wondered how they got in. He went to St.Peter and asked him if he was letting them all in. St. Peter said,"No,I send them away but then they go around back and your Mother let's them in the back door." just a joke but who better than a mother to sway her son?

We ask her to pray for us. Catholics pray to Christ. Catholics seem to be misunderstood, as a lot of other religions are.
