There not bringing themselves closer to God as Jesus spoke about that place he even made a story about it There was a rich man named Dives and a poor leper named Lazarus . Dives lived in a mansion and feasted sumptuously every day Lazarus sat outside at the gate of the rich man's house hoping someone might throw him some scraps from the rich man's table that never happened. In fact, dogs used to come and lick Lazarus' sores. One day they both died Lazarus went striaght to Heaven after, Dives died He went straight to hell. When he looked and saw Lazarus in Heaven having a good time, he wished he would just dip his finger in some water and let ta few drops fall upon his parched and burning tongue. But it could never be. He asked Abraham if he might go back and warn his brothers, because they were heading for the same place Abraham told him it would do no good. Jesus also told about the fate of the selfish at the Last Judgement.

"Depart from me, accursed into the everlasting fires prepared for the devil and his angels. When I was hungry you gave me no food. When I was thirsty, you gave me no drink. When I was naked, you did not clothe me..." "When, Lord will answer, 'As long as you refused to do it to the least of my brothers and sisters you refused to do it to me.'"

People may like to judge who is truly evil and have the satisfaction of knowing who is going to hell, but that has to leave that judgment up to God.

I am a Christian but some Christians I've seen/known make reasons how to avoid going to the other place.

If a person chooses to live a life cnetered around self has consciously decided that he/she does not want to have anything to do with God or with human beings in anguish, life after death will just be a logical extension of the way the person chose to live his/her whole existence. It would be logical for the person to find an existence after death living together with others who are totally self-centered and unconcered about others. God cannot force people to love him. If they chose no to love him, how can he force them to live with him forever? The only thing we know about hell is that Jesus did say the place exists for the devil and his angels and that he wanred mean and totally selfish people that there is a possibility for them if they do not change their ways.

We all fall short from the glory of God.
I feel that you sound judgmental now. We need to leave the judgment to our God who is just. He is righteous and He knows our hearts. He has promised that whoever longs to be with Him ( with all of their heart ), will be with Him. In the mean time we should spread the Gospel. The good news is that God loves us, all of us. We have a free will, let's use it wisely.

Ultimately saving faith happens when a person's heart is changed from craving gutter waer to craving living water, the realm of desires is changed by grace.

But why is hell brought up? One reason a chirstian would bring it up is the lake of fire is called the perseverance of the saints in Revation, Jesus repeated several times the phrases near the end of Isaiah about sinners not being anhialated, "their worm shall not die"

Another reason they would bring it up is that Jesus brought it up... however... retribution and the fear of it will not change a person in a saving way, soI agree with you on some manner, Jesus said this is the judgement the light has come into the world and they loved the darkness more than the light. In the end the problem is a problem of heart desires, A heart that would run from God in shame, denial or rebellion changed to a heart that treasured God. He who fears returibution is not perfected in love, so I agree in large part with your sentament.

What's the question?
Ok after I saw your last 'details' I had to get back in.
Mattthew 7:1 says Judge not that ye be not judge. But that's only 1 verse.
Matthew 7:2 says to that we will be judged by the same standards.
Your taking it out of context.
John 7:24 says to Judge with RIGHTEOUS judment.

We judge people every day.
That's how the court system works.
That's why we lock our doors at night.
Why we don't let strangers into our homes
Why we tell our kids not to take rides from strangers or not to talk to strangers.
That is why we are looking of Osama bin Laden. He attacked the U.S. We have to fight back. That's his judgement.

Any reasons Christians may or may not have for avoiding Hell are written in the Bible. Why don't you get off the computer and look it up?

"Christians make reasons how to avoid going to hell why is this?"

Is the question...but I'm not sure the story supports the question. Perhaps the question could be stated: Why would God not allow Lazarus to dip his finger in water to relieve the rich man? Or perhaps it could be stated: Why was the rich man not permitted to go back and warn his brothers?

We do not make reasons how to avoid going to hell. Jesus is the only way to Heaven, for there is no other way. You have to live for Jesus and let him lead you. You have to be good to your neighbors, and feed a hungry person and I dont mean just crumbs. Stop twisting the word of God just because you dont' agree with it.

i am a christian so i say this. on earth you are dives. a lucky man that gets what he wants. he gets what he thinks that he deserves.
but we are the lazarus. we are cold, hungry, and wet. starved and deprived of everything but God. but that is good enough. God is all we need to make it through. he is our shelter, our food, our strenth, our love, everything that one would need to survive, that is god. you can live like dives and still make it to heaven. but
dives knows everything but one. God.he could have lived the way he did on earth for the rest of time if he did one thing. go to church, pray, and truly, truly, with his whole heart believe in God.

Think about this.

Don't all Christians believe they are going to Heaven?

If what you say is true, and Christians make excuses that prevent people from going to hell, then they must be doing it for the sake of helping others and not themselves.

Why would a Christian who believes he is going to Heaven what to make up excuses for not going to hell other than to help others?

Ok first off, no one goes straight to heaven or hell. You die and your soul rests in your remains until judgement day when you rise from the dead and stand in line with EVERY human being until you are sentanced to hell or heaven, THAT is what the bible says, so why do so many idiots go "duhhhhh so and so died and is in heaven" "duhhh so and so died and is in hell" ummm nooo it isn't judgement day yet...

i never understood that. it isn't a crime to have money nor is it
crime not to give it away. Lazarus should've offered to work for
Dives instead of asking for a handout, just like the homeless
today. i hope i don't go to hell becuz i work & don't give my
money to bums.drunks, & drug addicts. that wouldn't be fair.
theres gotta be more to that story then we know about.
