I mean, if you already know the answer, why ask the question?

I don't mean a point like a scorecard. I mean like making a point or a statment about something.

Because they want points, duh.

It has been ingrained in us since we were in school that we want to be similar to others - and that our information is more correct if other's agree. Some of us want to know if there are like minded others out there. Others feel like you don't get credit for knowing anything until someone else knows you do.

I submit to you that at least 75% of people ask a question, are looking for a desired response. They don't already KNOW the answer but there is a specific answer they are looking for - and right or not, that is what they came looking for. Agreement or comfort.

Just as you have done, I would guess. You have asked this question and the response you are looking for is 'Yeah! That drives me crazy too!"

This is a big forum and a great way to finally take your question or point of view directly to a large group of people. Why wouldn't people put their ideas out there to see if people agree?

Peace!

Sometimes I already know "my" answer to a question, I just enjoy getting the opinion of other people.

As for why people post "questions" when they just want to hop up on their soap box, they have a need to be heard I guess. Posting their thoughts on Yahoo!Answers is an anonymous way to say something, argue it and not be seen or heard in real life.

The truly courageous are people who can have face to face discussions about sensitive issues without getting defensive or angry. Those are the kind of discussions I love.

Sadly, it doesn't happen often.

I may have an opinion or a point to make about something, but I may also want to know what others have to say about the same thing.

Who feels the same. Who disagrees, who doesn't care.

It may not be a question, but it still deserves comment on, or thought about it.

To make people think...

Often this must be their only forum and they seek the anonymity provided by this one.
Granted, it seems like quite a waste of time but consider how much paper this method of 'blowing-off-steam' saves compared to writing to newspapers, etc.
By the way...didn't you just 'make a point'.?

Because they want people to hear what they have to say and apparently they can't find listeners elsewhere.
By the way, isn't your "question" also mostly just a statement about the people posting non-questions?

Are you trying to make some kind of point with this question?

Because people are too lazy to sign up with a blogging or online journal service instead.

You lose points when you ask questions, not make points.

They ask the question to see if anyone else knows the answer.
