I'm not sure which one to major in at college. None of my family members are either of the professions, but they both appeal to me. Does anyone have experience in any of these fields that could give me some advice?

Civil Engineering hands down...unless you're in it for the art. You can still be heavily involved in design with Civil, and will comand more bucks. Civil will also give you a much broader background where you can work in a number of subdisciplines. Check out the "kids and careers" section of www.asce.org for more info.

Most architecture schools will offer double major in civil engineering and architecture. Bear in mind architects are dime a dozen. You need that engineering degree to stand out from the crowd. However, it will be alot harder to take on both majors and you have to commit yourself to it or end up being a home economics major.

Got my degree in Aerospace engineering. Engineering in general is extremely math orientied, so if you're good in math and like math then you will be very happy in that major. Architecture is a combo of lite engineering and art/design. So if you're both interested in math/building and art, that's the way to go.

If you are creative and imaginative then only go for architecture, this isn't the sort of field where you can put 20 hours of hardwork and excel at it...you need creativity to be able to make your mark in this field.

It's like the difference between accounting and finance. One is less creative than the other.
