Is Israel a modern Serbia while the U.S. is Germany, backing them up no matter what and eventually everyone getting dragged into it? Is it like World War 1 in that sense?

I mean is it like WW1 in a sense because of all the inter-related pacts countries have. So if Country A gets attacked/attacks and it has a pact with Country B that if such a thing happens, then Country B will help, what if Country B doesn't really want to fight. Germany didn't want to fight WW1 but had to, per their aggreement.

The question is not that stupid, afterall if we don't learn from history, we're doomed to re-live it.

Anyway, the world is divided along allied (or coalition) and axis-of-evil lines, and if an aggression against one of the alliances is done, you can be sure a domino effect will escalate into another world war.

The big difference, of course, between the events of today and those 92 years ago is the spectre of nucluar holocaust. With that hanging over our heads, the responses by the major powers are not as drastic or impulsive as they were 92 years ago.

I dont think its that easy - though if comparisons are to be made (very loosely, it must be added) then Israel certainly reflects Germany, in terms of the power-trip and requirement to be the most powerful in the region and ensuring that neighbours are not so. (Allbeit, in this case, with the help of the USA and their Absurd Foreign Policies)

Might be going off the point here but...

Why is is that Israel is allowed to have Nuclear weapons where as other countries in the region are not!? regardless of the dispute, if my next door neighbour and I hate each other, and he is allowed to keep a cannon in his garden pointing at my front door, I'm not gonna give much of a crap and am gonna want one too!

The other things thats p'ing me off is the whole emphasis at the moment is on 'Hezbullah attacks on Isreal'. Does no one consider Israels attacks on Lebenon!? Surely the death count of 34 Israeli's and 330 Lebonese says a lot for who's attacking who and who's using excessive force!

Blowing up all bridges, roads and routes to the north then giving civilians a deadline to leave south lebenon. I'm a pretty average 22 yr old student, more into my music, girls and internet than anything political and even I can see this is pretty dumb.... or maybe Naziesk Evil!?

The israeli state seem to mirror the brutality of the Nazi's by targetting civilians.

This is a plot by Iran to get Israel to invade Lebenon so that there facist agenda will be more apealing to the regular or on the fence Muslims of extremism. An Israeli invasion would create a much undesired backlash to all democracies involved.

In a way. I think that we are just sitting on the sidelines making sure that Iran and Syria get involved. Israel might be able to handle terror groups with so-so artillery, but when you add countries with an actual military, that's a different story all together.

Don't count on it. One major difference is Israel is "defending" herself AT THIS POINT.

I think that congress and the public would complain even if England went on a rampage to conquer Europe. There is a line seperating defense and offense.

We have been trying to pressure Israel to back out of contested lands etc. so we aren't going to blindly support her every action and they know it.

This is a stupid, stupid, stupid, question. You can't compare the triggerings of war from 92 years ago to now, not the same at all. It was a COMPLETELY different time and world back then, no it is not like World War One in any sense.

4th world war. Don't think that because the 'Cold War' wasn't an overt war that it wasn't a world war. Plenty of countries were involved with it.
