Why do some of the nonbelievers assume that believers are uneducated and naive or have not experienced life "outside the box"? Almost everytime a religious person asks a question referring to God or religion, they will say we are not intelligent or closed minded? Don't they realize that faith has nothing to do with man's knowledge and we try not to lean into our own understanding, but put our faith in something higher than ourselves? Why does that mean we are closed minded?

Because many non believers, think that the Bible is a past history, a story that never happened. They haven't want or haven't got the time to read the Bible. Sometimes people assume because you are christian, you cant be a scientist. I am Christian and I am a scientist, and more I study Science, more I believe there is God.
So, I really don't care what they think of me, I defend what I think is true, and they will defend what they think is true also.
I call it tolerance, I accepted everyone.
And believe God is there , he exist and weather people believe in him or not...he exist and that is all!
I try not to convince anyone, but I never regret my Christianity.
Have a beautiful day, and don't care about what other things!
You aren't close mind!

If that's what they say, then they are the ones who are being closed-minded.

Personally, as an atheist, I will grant you this. While not all atheists are totally militant about their interactions with theists, not all are completely innocent.

I don't share the views of religion, (organized or otherwise), however, I do understand and realize that everyone "needs something". Some believe that the world was created in 7 days, blah bah blah, and others do not. Some vehemently deny it. That's fine.

I respect you for having your beliefs even though I do not share them or believe in them. You are entitled to that freedom as a human being.

I run into a problem when others step on the toes of my beliefs: that there is no god. With that often comes the "prove there is no god" - (which, btw, the 'burdon of proof does not lie in me because I hold no such claims), and when those "religious" persons do not hold to the basic tenants of their beliefs: "Do unto others as you would have done to you".

Personally, I'm disgusted by the rabid attacks on Yahoo Answers from those who seek to debate theism vs. atheism only to have a wall of bible verses and stories thrown at me as "proof positive" of the existence of god. Sorry, that just doesn't cut it for me. It may for you, but not me. The bible was "the word of God" written by the hands of man. Man is human, and as such, is not infallible. We are, after all, only human.

I TRY (that's a very BIG "try") to keep those persons separated from Joe and Joan Everyday Christian, but since so many of them seem to take a militant approach to answering questions (or even posting questions), it's easy to lose sight of the fact that some of these people, like the atheists you've mentioned, aren't quite the "norm".

That said, try to remember that not every atheist is a rabid, militant who cannot possibly understand where a theist gets their views. (I will try to do the same for christians). More often than not, an atheist has already gone down the road of religion or spiritual belief, and has evolved in a different way than the other 95% of the world that believes in some form of deity. We also does not need everything to be "rehashed". We already know. We've been down that road and have chosen another path. It does not mean we are evil, and perhaps while we may be "comdemned" in the eyes of theists, it does not mean that we aren't moral, caring, loving, breathing humans - not unlike you.

It doesn't mean that. Your mind is only closed to the works of the devil and his lies. Your mind will open to the truth and the word of God. They are not capable of even knowing that the mind is your soul not your brain Only open your hearts door to that which is good do not let evil influence in your life. A little child who has not learned any thing from this world has more faith then the oldest person on the planet so knowledge will not get you thru the gates of heaven Satan know's the word of God better then we do but were is his place.

Faith is a denial of reality. The better educated a person is - the more they know about how the world really works - the less likely they are to be religious. That's why people who wish to perpetuate religion always try to pervert the education system by taking over schools, putting religious mythology in the science curriculum and so on. *They* know very well that education is dangerous to religious belief, and that's why they fight against it.

Some non-believers are also naive and closed minded. Since they do not believe in god and most believe in science as the answer, they ignore other possibilities. This just shows we are ALL in the same boat... not knowing anything and just trying to understand everything.

I don't consider it closed minded but some close their eyes to actual facts and evidence, such as the literal thousands of pieces of evidence that evolution happens, that the world is billions of years old, the Big Bang, etc. Some "believers" are moderate and accept these facts and envelope them into their faith and that's cool. It's the extremist types that don't accept facts that I find disturbing. I can live with them as long as they aren't trying to force their beliefs into what should be a religion free government.

As a close minded person, it is too big for you to understand. Faith is saying god did it, rather than thinking, understanding, and explaining.

That's not the reason ppl think christians are closed minded. I have my own beliefs and accept that there are other ppl who believe different than me. I don't put them down when they ask their questions. But as soon as I post a question-showing how I believe..... Christians go crazy like I'm not allowed to believe the way I do. They put down wiccans calling them devil worshipers, and think all religions are wrong but them.... and put you down if you don't believe.

if they are non-believers what else they can do but assumed about what they don't know,?, and because they don't know what they are saying. God may give then a new chance, though that isn't for me to decide, though i which HIM, could make then understand, that we know better." they feel jealousy and they can't understand how Christians can Love one another"<<>>>
