Crime does pay - look at what convicted criminals get out of the honest, hardworking taxpayers !!
They get a nice cosy warm room - often to themselves, with work time limited and "playtime" as well as three meals a day. They have a roof over their head and get training better than some of the kids nowadays. Let's not forget the tv's and game systems they also get.
How is that right ?? We pay for criminals to live better than many of the law abidding citizens do. Money we have no choice over how it's spent. Money that could be used to heat someone's home or feed them or god forbid improve our NHS service or give the kids something to do instead of roaming the streets causing trouble. Money that could put a roof over a homeless persons head, someone that has fallen on hard times but because they don't just rob someone they have to sit on the streets, give a homeless person a prisoners meal, just one, and they would think they'd been invited to a banquet !
It's utterly disgraceful and it's not getting better.
Prison should be prison - a cell with the basics, no tv, basic food that's enough to keep a person going, etc. Prison used to be a punishment, a deterant now it's an "option" ..............

Yes, you need to say more. You need to say how you are cynical and don't know many politicians, police, celebrities, or religious folk. Several, many even, are very good, honest, and sincere people. Obviously, more than a few are crooked as a barrel of snakes. But even the crooks have to work very hard to deliver something of value. If they don't they won't be believed, appreciated, or valued. Even a liar needs to tell some truth, lest his lies lose their value. You are generously endowed with a cynical eye, try a critical view--check out the important points on people and you will see there are a lot of your listed personalities that indeed have a lot going for them. Then you will be able to honestly discern the difference between trophies and trash.

Crime is often considered a Rational Choice, whereby those who are lacking in educational and financial opportunity find a way to support themselves, their family and a lifestyle that is not poverty stricken. For others it is greed, stupidity and adrenaline....However, can you imagine a world without crime? what would happen to certain public services, there would be mass unemployment etc... which i suppose in turn could provoke further crime waves. Another thought is what is crime and its definition when certain behaviours have not been suggested as such by a government? Criminality and its definition is forever changing...

Certainly paid well for Bill and Hillary Clinton; Also the Kennedys.
Look at ted Kennedy - He killed a woman in an accident, then left the scene of the accident. He is still a Senator and a rich S.O.B.

With our soft law enforcement and lack of Police officers, crime probably does pay.

for most it does, because of the easy time in prison these days, the risk of committing a crime and getting away with it, well a lot don't care anymore

the payoff may be good as far as instant gratification, but eventually what goes around comes around and criminals always end up in jail or dead....crime may pay in the begining but the consequences usually dont..
