This is normal, and there's no secret, really. Some dogs are fooled easily with the cheese method previously mentioned. Just get out a cheddar square and fold it over and around the pill, or dig a small chamber in a chunk of velveeta to drop the pill in. This also works with lunch-meat. Sometimes, the dog is not fooled and will figure out what you're up to and get ready to spit it out. To prevent this, you can wrap your hands around her muzzle and tilt her head toward the sky. You can also grab her upper jaw, tilt her head up, and push it as far back in there as you can, and massage her throat if she won't swallow. It really depends on the temperment of your animal. I would suggest giving her an additional reward after she successfully swallows the pill. Give her an extra treat and definitely make a big deal out of it and give her plenty of cuddles and hugs. Once she begins to associate taking her pill with Awesome Happenings, she will brighten noticeably toward the concept.

Put it in a little piece of cheese. Give her a small piece with no pill then give her the piece with the pill, then a chaser of just cheese :-). If that doesn't work, try marshmellows.
If she cannot be fooled, you stand behind, one leg on each side of her, talk sweetly and rub under her neck when she is sitting. Gently lift her head up, toss the pill in the back of her throat (very fast), shut her mouth and gently rub her throat to make her swallow. She will not be happy but it works. It helps if you have two people.

I've always been able to open my dogs mouth (using thumb & index finger to separate jaws), toss the pill down with my other hand, quickly close the mouth and hold the snout gently shut, and rub throat until dog swallows! No problems!
But I know people who have the problem you do. In which case you might have some luck "hiding" the pill inside wet dog food, or cheese, or any other treat your dog likes.

Push the pill into a 1 inch cube of room temperature cheese. letting the cheese get warm will help prevent the cheese from breaking apart, and I don't know any dog that will refuse cheddar cheese! My dog will unwrap the pill out of lunchmeat and spit it out, and I can't get him to swallow any pills, this is the only thing that works for me. There are also some dog treats specifically made to put pills in to give your dog, try looking at a petsmart store. You may also try using a soft nugget-shaped dog treat.

Try hiding it in peanut butter, a slice of ham or cheese, or something else yummy. There's also a new product called "Pill Poppers" that are basically a squishy dog treat that wraps right around pills. We've been using these recently and they're great.
This is much easier than trying to wrestle your dog into taking pills; much more pleasant for both of you.

We wrap our dog's pills in a piece of meat to get them to eat it, if that doesn't work we crunch it up into some tuna or wet food and just give them a small amount with it to make sure they eat it then give the rest after they eat the part with the meds, also works on our cat.

mine loves her pill just coated in peanut butter. she doesnt even chew, just swallows them. my former dog was smart tho, it had to be hidden in a piece of hotdog or cheese or something like that.
your dog probably doesnt like the taste of the pill and has no clue what you're trying to do to her.
another thing to try is give her a few chunks of bread, then put one wrapped up in one of the chunks, she might not relieze that it was anything different

yupp. get a peanut butter jar, put a lil bit on the pill and try to put it in her mouth on the side then push it down. Your dog will taste the peanut butter and she will be focusing on the peanut butter than the pill. it works. Trust me, I have 2 dogs.

Put the pill inside something you know she will eat, like a piece of a hot dog. That's what I do, and it works.
