Both of my sons did this. I believe that they are just exploring their body since that part is always covered up.

Haha! Welcome to being the mom of a boy!! My son did (and still does!) the same thing! He's almost 17 months old now. It's the same concept as playing with his feet or hands. He's discovered something new, and he wants to check it out as much as he can! It's perfectly normal! I started talking to my son about what private parts are when he started doing this. He doesn't really understand the concept yet, but it keeps things open for later on down the road when he DOES understand it!

Have fun!! Just don't forget to watch where he "aims"!!!

Totally normal. My 2 1/2 year old did it and still does it now. Come to think of it...hubby still does it sometimes!

For children, it is just a way of coming to know their bodies and exploration of them. It's just a part that they don't ever really have access to..due to the fact that they're wearing diapers most of the time. It's alright. Don't worry.

Yes it is vert normal especially at that age, cause he's starting 2 explore his body and just so happened 2 find something 2 pull on. And don't be worried cause it will not stop. Think about it, why do u think grown men still walk around holding their stuff, it's a male thing!!

It is normal. They have found a built in toy and will play with it until they tire of it, just like any other toy. Try redirecting his attention to something else when he is dressed, and don't make a big deal of it during diaper changes. Most children will out grow this, and as they get older you can explain to them that it is not nice to play with that.

Yes it is totally normal. They are just exploring that thing down there...lol...my son was scared to death of it..it was quite comical...although they usually do it more when having a tubby then at diaper changes..but he could just be grabbing it because the air feels good. Don't worry he will outgrow it...(although there are many MEN who still grab at their genetals every chance they get...lol..so maybe it's in their dna)

It quite normal indeed ! It just gets in the way when they are curling up lol! Possible too they get itchy after diaper is remove so it's a natural response.

So normal. Discovering new things. Don't worry! Don't want to freak you out, but word of warning for the future, and I'm not trying to be disgusting. I was continued to be surprised by my son's "self discovery" when as a little boy he discovered his actions could make "it" feel funny or change shape! Lord, a mother of a son needs to be prepared to face all kinds of uncomfortable challenges about the privacy. Part of parenting. It won't go away. So don't worry, but it will continue to get more interesting. Be ready to talk to your son about those kinds of issues, you don't want him to be scared to talk to you!

It can't hurt to ask a doctor to make sure everything is ok, but it's pretty normal especially when his diaper is off. It's normal curiosity.

men certainly do start that at an early age, don't they... I think it's normal.. it's like a new, built-in toy just for him..when he has his diaper on he's probably wondering where it went... why can't he find his built-in toy anymore...get use to it, my son is 5 and he still tends to do that... hell, my husband is 43 and he still does it!! it never stops!
