To do it in a healthy manner, you should take about a year to lose it. It will be more likely to stay off then if you lose it faster.

It depends on a lot of factors. My brother is 6 ft tall, weighed 220 lbs and dropped 70 lbs in about 4 months. But he drank water whenever he felt hungry and never ate anything bigger than his fist. Never ate past 8 p.m. It is a brutal way to lose weight AND he looks like he has a terminal disease now. NOT good!

How tall are you and what do you weigh now? Are you muscular or flabby? Muscle burns more calories & takes up less space, so I'd advise against the "60 lbs" and set a goal for clothing size (in general).

Remember 1 lb of fat = 3500 calories. You want to lose 210,000 calories that you've already eaten.
Start by taking your current weight and adding a "0". (i.e. 150 = 1500) That is how many calories you can eat/drink without gaining weight.

How many calories do you eat each day? If you don't know, keep a food journal for a week and find the average. Do this for a month -- because PMS will make you eat more or less than usual.

If you cut back the number of calories by 500/day, you're on your way to losing 1 lb a week! If you can't cut 500 calories/day, then start with 100-250.

Then you need to add exercise. Those 210,000 stored calories aren't going to disappear just from cutting back how much you eat! Do some light weight lifting (1, 2 or 3 lb dumbbells) and take at least a 30-45 minute walk each morning. Get up early if you must -- take your kids, they'll love the fresh air and it'll be a good example for them too!

Aim for about 2 lbs/week in weight loss. 1 lb from cutting out extra calories and 1 lb from increased exercise. 60 lbs divided by 2 lbs/week would equal 30 weeks -- about 7 and a half months.

Focus and you can do it!

If you want to lose 60 pounds safely, plan on losing no more than 2 pounds a week on average, so it would take you 30 weeks. Anything faster than that (like taking diet pills/fat burners or trying a starvation diet) is very dangerous because it can wreak havoc with your metabolism.

Wanna lose 60 pounds safely without having to exercise constantly or be over-restrictive on your diet? Here's how:

1. Do some type of exercise for at least 15 minutes every day, even if it's just a walk around the neighborhood. Increase the duration if you can, but if you do any type of cardio don't go over 1 hour at a time.

2. Eat only when you're hungry (READ: Your stomach must be grumbling, and no, it doesn't count if you ate within the last two hours and you're digesting your last meal).

3. Don't stuff. Try cutting your portion sizes down. You may have to eat more often during the day if you cut down your portions, but as long as your stomach is signaling you that you need food, you're OK.

4. Between meals, all you're allowed is water, diet soda, coffee or tea without cream and sugar, and sugar-free gum/mints.

5. When you eat your meals, eat whatever you want but try to include more of these fat loss enhancers:
-- Nuts of any kind
-- Beans and other legumes
-- Green veggies
-- Lowfat dairy products
-- Eggs (high in protein and "good" fats)
-- Olive oil (also high in "good" fat)
-- Lean meats (fish and poultry are best)
-- Whole grain breads/cereals/pasta
-- Fruit (especially any kind of berries, unsweetened)

6. Try to avoid these things whenever possible:
-- High fructose corn syrup (soft drinks, candy, snacks)
-- Trans fat (partially or fully hydrogenated oils)
-- Refined sugar
-- White flour

7. Have at least one small dessert every day (remember, chocolate is good for you, but not in large quantities)

8. Take 1/2 a day every week and "cheat" -- have whatever you want, as much as you want (but remember -- don't stuff)

Good luck!

here is a way to do it eat a normal breakfast, a little less at lunch of what you normally eat maybe half, at dinner just eat natural yogurt with pitta bread or tortilla ( you decide how much to eat obviously not the whole package) visit your doctor after two weeks or four just to make sure you are getting all the nutrients and your cholesterol is ok. Hey girl good luck and hoppe you reach your goal, and dont forget to just do 20min work out to start and work your way up it wont take days it will take months so dont get descuraged, and give up.

Ok I know your all going to say that it aint healthy to loose weight that fast but listen to my story, last summer I started doing research on green tea, I decided to try it, I went to my doctor and weighed in. from april 15th to july 1st (like 2 and a half months) I had lost 53 pounds. I drank green tea all the time and took the gerrn tea extraxt pills and chewed the green tea gum. I used my Gazell 5 times a week and made little changes like parking farther away from the door, and so on. I went to the doctor every week and everything was always ok with my health.

It's best to lose weight slowly, losing 1 - 2 pounds per week. So, at that rate, 30 - 60 weeks to lose 60 pounds.

Swap a bowl of pasta for just a bowl of vegetables. You can preserve to 200 calories by chopping the starch and adding vegetables.
