Thighs, yes. Cycling works your quadriceps, or the front of your thighs. I don't think it works your belly, though... but you can try the link below for some good exercises.

Yes, It does. That has been my own experience .At plus-60 a pot-belly and fatty thighs is almost a compulsory attachment owing to sedentary office work. After getting out I started reglar cycling supplemented by diet-lots of raw fruits and vegetables. Within six months there was a miraculous transformation in my physique. I lose 23 kgs. , the belly receded so much back that I could not sleep on my back as it would sink to touch the back. I could cycle up a small hillock on cycle non-stop.With growing age (I am now 83) I had to opt out of this rigorous rigmarole but my health is OK(It always was even before retirement). You can depend on a cycle.

Cycling is a form of aerobic exercise and if done for at least 20 mins consistently at a good speed, (making sure you are not panting for breath and your heart is not racing too much), for at least four times per week can condition you legs, help trim your entire body, which means you will eventually cut some belly fat off. A combination of the exercise, a healthy eating plan and some abdominal training will give you even a more toned look in the mid section.

Absolutely. Any Cardio exercise which raises your heart rate for a sustained period of time (20-60 mins is what I would recomend) will burn fat off your body. It is a myth that you can 'spot reduce' certain areas by exercising that particular body part. You need to work out at a reasonably high intensity but not so hard that you cannot sustain the exercise for at leat 20 mins. Try to increase either your speed or the distance that you ride gradually as your fitness increases and you will burn even more fat.
An important thing to remember though is that fat loss is basic mathematics. The energy that you consume (eat) must be LESS THAN the energy that you burn throughout the day.
The key to successful weight loss is a balanced healthy eating program where at least 2/3 of what you eat looks like it grew in the ground ( unprocessed fresh food) and regular exercise including cardio 2-3 times a week for at least 30mins and at leat 1 strength training session to tone and build muscle to increase the rate at which you burn fat.

When you're cycling, you're helping produce leg muscle, but the only way you're really going to take off belly/thigh fat is with running or an elyptical machine accompanied by good dieting habits and a routine that works out the entire body.

Most people like the idea of cycling (hey, you get to sit down for most of it!), but the results aren't the same as if you were running or working out the entire body.

Despite what everyone thinks, there is no exercise that will "target" the body fat in any one single area of the body. Your body does not go "Well, she is working her stomach muscles more, I should use the fat there first". In order to lose belly and thing fat, you have to decrease your overall body fat.
Yes, you can decrease your over all body fat doing cardio on a bicycle. Just like any exercise it takes effort. For best results I recommend sustained effort(20-60 minutes), with your Heart Rate (Beats per Minute) at between 65-80% of your Max Heart Rate (220 minus your age is your Max HR).
HOWEVER, you can exercise till you drop dead - but if you are taking in more calories than you are burning, you are not going to lose weight. That is why the most important step you can take is change what you eat (not necessarily how much you eat).

This is excellant cardio-exercise. It will burn fat if you keep your intake below your outgo. (That is a simple fact that few dieters want to think about. If it doesn't go in, it can't go on. High protien and low carbo/fat diets of under 1,200 calories a day won't do anything for you unless you burn over 1,200 calories a day.)

Fat doesn't just jump off problem areas because we target them through exercise. If that were so, a lot of overweight Americans who do morning sit-ups would look trimmer and leaner.

Workouts, like diets and everything else in life, should be well balanced. Cardio, strength training, and resistance exercise all have a place. The trick is to start slow, build endurance and keep your heart rate up, as well as to cool down slowly afterwards. Richard Simmons had a great idea with his sweating to the oldies video program. He started slow, built to a crescendo and tapered off slowly. The exercises he worked into his routines targeted every muscle group and problem area in the body. It's cheaper than a home gym or membership to a free-standing one. You don't need to look good to do it. It can be done in the privacy of your living room (barring sarcastic children and spouses and frightened house pets, ha!HA!) and costs very little. Also the music is upbeat, fairly familiar, and helps to get your endorphins going. These are neurotransmitters in your brain that are triggered by exercise, dancing, and sometimes just by music. They bring on feelings of well being and pleasure. This also helps when you are dieting, to chase away the deprivation blues and their attendant pitty parties.

Good luck with your work on yourself. Have fun with it. After all, life is way to short to spend your time doing things you hate. Enjoy yourself and daydream about all the new clothes you're going to be needing, rather than what you would rather be doing. Change is uncomfortable, at first, but it only takes 30 days to train your body and mind to accept new habits which are as firm as old ones.

Watch your self-talk and think positively. See yourself - body, spirit and mind - the way you want yourself to be and steadily work toward this goal. Pat yourself on the back - OFTEN - and visualize the changes you are in process of making.

You can do this! If you keep it up, the fat will leave all of your body and you will acheive a better muscle to fat ratio which will lower your blood pressure, increase lung capacity, strengthen your heart, improve your endurance, and inevitably make you feel good about yourself from the inside out.

Remember, though, that inner-tube and those thunder thighs didn't happen in a vaccum and they didn't appear overnight. It will take time to get where you want to be. DON'T EVER GIVE UP!

Bicycling combined with a good diet will help you lose both belly and thigh fat. I think it burns something like 700+ calories / hour depending on just how hard you push yourself. Swimming is another really efficient excercise. I say bike 1-2 hours every day for 2 weeks while eating modestly you will probably lose about 10 pounds.

Most definitely, IF you truly exercise on the bicycle and don't just leisurely coast around the neighborhood. Be sure to get toe-clips or a similar foot-securing product on your bike, and a pair of good bicycling shoes as well. If you don't do that, then you won't be able to use the up-stroke and forward-stroke in the pedaling stroke which is what stresses / exercises the stomach and thigh muscles. And bicycling with toe clips or similar device DEFINITELY WILL trim your stomach down to the slimmest and firmest you want, contrary to some of the other answers I've seen given here. Also you won't be able to use the back-stroke on the down side of the stroke to stress / exercise the thighs and buttocks or "hip" muscles. Talk to a knowledgeable person in a bicycle shop, NOT at a Walmart or Target or KMart type place. They'll know exactly what you're needing and they probably have a bicycle club and you can enjoy wonderful riding friends and really start doing the trimming and shaping up that you want. I've ridden thousands of miles and spent thousands of dollars on world-class bicycles and accessories over the past 25 years, and I definitely know where of I speak on this one. You don't have to spend near the amount of money I did since production of excellent bicycles and accessories have brought the prices down greatly over the years. Oh, and you'll DEFINITELY want to buy some good, padded bicycle shorts. If you're gonna ride, you won't want to chaff unnecessarily because you wore some everyday walking shorts or jeans. Believe me!! And you'll look GREAT as a result of your efforts. I've ridden with plenty of beautiful women bike riders over all these years and miles. God Bless you.
