you'd spend on your neice/cousin/grandaughter on a wedding present??

I'm confused about the things I should put on my list, whether putting a washing machine or dining table or tv unit down is too cheeky??!

The rule of thumb is put a large range of things on there from $5 to $5,000- it's doesn't have to be that extreme but you know what I mean. Yes, you can put a washer in hopes that grandmom will buy it but you also need small items so friends and younger relatives can give you something. You'll find most people spend about $50 dollars for a shower gift so you'll want most of your items to be $25-$50 and have some cheaper things for wishing wells and add on gifts. Register for a couple large gifts but not too many. Write a list down of all the little things you need and could use, decide what "big" items you want to include. Just make sure the list looks even- not too top heavy with large items or you will look a little greedy.

My fiance and I compiled our gift list on the weekend just gone. With John Lewis you can put on an expensive like this but in such a way that guests can pay towards it so that your washing machine may be from 4 or 5 people for instance. Also John Lewis automatically put Gift vouchers on the list too. We made sure that we had gifts in a whole range of prices so as not to make anyone feel uncomfortable or embarassed.

Have fun compiling it, the zappers are quite good and the free cake and drink was nice too! Hope you have a nice wedding and successful happy marriage!

I think I would spend something in the region of £40 - 70 for these relatives... I think thats about $20 - 60???? For closer relatives and colse friends it could be twice this or more.... I would judge it on how close you are to these people in your family. If you see them every week expect more but if you haven't seen your 29 yr old cousn since they were 12yrs, don't expect too much!

I guess using a store (John Lewis, Argos, BHS???) and adding a range of higher and lower priced gifts would be the best idea. If your wedding party won't be that large and you're organising a list yourself, for these relatives I would expect something between £30 - £50. If the're on the dole or very well paid adjust accordingly!!!! Haha x

Have a lovely day!

I put a $2000 couch on my registry. I just specified that gift cards were more than welcome. Actually a bunch of my relatives together pitched in and gave me quite a bit towards it. I think that you should put on there whatever you want. But if you are really worried that you might look greedy, talk to your parents. They'll know their families well enough to give you some idea of how much people will spend.

In the end though, no one knows for sure. Personally I say put that stuff on the registry because a lot of times, those stores give you good discounts on all the items that weren't bought - so you'll get a great deal on it anyways. And you never know, maybe someone will end up getting it for you! Good luck!

I would say the most expensive I have spent for a relative on a wedding is $50 - $75.

It depends how close I am to them. At least a $100.00, though. You should put it on your list anyways, maybe a couple people will get together on it. Then there is always the safe gift I usually pick- Gift cards!

It all depends on how well i know the person. I'd say put them on the list - people can always club together to get them for you - or ask for gift vouchers for a certain store where you can get the items from. :-)

I would put shop vouchers down as well, that way they can spend how much they like!
