I live on a farm and have outdoor cats. They are dying left and right. They have some disease. My question is if I give them all shots, will it help or will they die anyway because they already have something? Or would it work only on the ones that show no signs of disease yet? I just got some really cute kittens and I can't let them die! LOL I get entirely too attached to all of my animals...always have. :)

To those who want to bad-mouth me, I am not made of money. If I was, I would be able to take them all to the vet and take care of the problem. And why would I have them spayed when I want more cats? Every person that I know that lives on a farm, does NOT vaccinate their outside cats. If I had money, I would have one of the biggest animal shelters in the world, but sad to say, that's just life and people have to learn to deal with it.

It just tears my heart out that my cats are suffering...that is why I want to try and help them. If I had known my land had the disease on it, I would never have gotten any cats in the first place! I do have indoor pets....1 Siamese (14 yr. old) and a Min Pin (11 yrs. old)...and 3 other dogs outside. They are all spayed, vaccinated and very well taken care of!! And I can't afford to do it with all of the other cats too, so get off my back please! I had an American Eskimo that just died who was 17 years old, so don't accuse me of not taking care of my pets!

You definitely need to take one of the affected cats to a vet so you can find out what is killing them. Then you can take the appropriate steps to protect the healthy ones. Vaccinations will only work on animals that have not contracted the disease yet, but some illnesses can be treated even after exposure to the cat. So you really need to find out what they have before you can proceed any further. Good luck to you!

if they were vaccinated you wouldnt be asking this question -
you need to take one to a vet to diagnose the problem and do so quick - some diseaces are long lived in the environment and as such if this is the case you will not be able to safely keep any unvaccinated cat on your property for years...
failure to take suffering animals to a vet can have you charged with negligence - since you say the cats are dying left and right and have neglected to call a vet - I think very little of you as a human being and you say you love them and get attached - so why didnt you vaccinate before hand - plus they dont sound like they are spayed or neutered so I doubt you care for pets as much as you say you do -
I live on a farm too and all our cats are spayed or neutered so dont suggest that farm cats shouldnt be fixed

Trap them (if they are unable to be caught otherwise) and take them to a vet to diagnose what is going on. That way, the vet can give you appropriate treatment for it. If the kittens are old enough (8 weeks or older), bring them indoors until you can get them to the vet. That way, if they don't already have whatever is going around, they won't be around the cats that do.

If the cats aren't showing symptoms, vaccinations MIGHT work. Otherwise you would be better off trapping and getting rid of the sick cats. It sounds like a stray brought some disease among your outdoor felines and it's killing them off.

Sorry I don't have any better news for you, but I saw something like this before.

LOL?? Not lol. These cats are suffering. Get the vet in asap. They might need to be put to sleep which is entirely too sad but better than prolonging their distress. They can't help themsleves, so you have to do it for them and you shouldn't wait until you have cute kittens that you want to keep, it isn't fair. I know its expensive and death is part of nature, but please don't let them suffer any more.
