Bile from the gall bladder is released by a valve in the bile duct, triggered by the presence of fat in the stomach in order to aid digestion of fats. The small intestine finishes the job where nutrients are absorbed/delivered to the body. The job of bile is done. The valve is closed

When food leaves the small intestine it passes to the large intestine for excretion.
Only my understanding from my doctor at surgery.

Food in the small intestines stimulates bile secretion and its flow to small intestine to digest fat .As the function is completed as the food leaves small intestine, stimulation is stoped &further bile is not formed till the next stimulation, Residual bile is absorbed and metabolized by liver &then excreate out of body.
