In "Back to the Future 2", Marty McFLy, used a hoverboard in 2015..... and again in 1885.

When the movie was being made, it was leaked out that they were in fact "real"...... it got your attention I can imagine! ...... and the attention of millions of others when they heard about it...... can you say "effective marketing"!

In actual fact, these actors (and the hoverboards) where suspended from thin wires and were hanging from cranes!

In theory it could work, but you need a lot of magnetic force in which to carry it out. Let's wait til 2015..... it may become fact after all!

I don't think this is what you are asking about but on the off chance it is I will include my answer amongst the rest. This past year a "hoverboard"....or rather more of an inflatable raft/boat...has become very popular. It is attached to the back of a boat in the same manner as parasails. They have recently been recalled because of several safety issues...one of which is that it soars out of control at heights of 40 feet or more which is not safe. Quite a few people have already died while using the device. I for one certainly hope the refine the design so that it is safe for use because I would really like to try it! Take care and I hope you have an amazing day!

In real life we have what's called Mag-Lev,meaning magnetic levitation,so in turn, you could build your own hover board,if you could buy big enough magnets. In order for you and your board to levitate, the large, flat magnets would have to be opposites.Apply some to the board and allot more to the ground,in the direction you want to travel, and your off, floating right along...There ya go,just like the movies and ya didn't have to back to the future after all...tom science

They're in Back to the Future. I don't think they exist in real life. It would be cool if they did though!
