What causes your skin to itch? Depends. If you were bitten by a misquito, for example, the insect opened a wound when drinking your blood and caused germs to get inside to cause redness and swelling and an itch. When you get bit, wash the affected area as soon as possible. If it still itches, buy some triple antibiotic ointment from the store and apply it to the skin. Try not to itch them, it makes them worse.

itching is caused because of release of histamine in the cell of the skin. scratching is what u do to satisfy the urge to itch.
a antihistaminic is the best method to relieve itching, in every case.... even in mosquito bites. antibiotic creams for an itch is like takin contrceptives for an headache

Green,
The answer about the histimines is correct. One of the simplest treatments for itching, is hot water. When you run the hottest water you can stand over the affected area, it releases the histimines from the cells, and the itching stops for hours. It feels REALLY good, too.
