would ankle weights play a significant role in weight loss if i wore them all day around the house? i know they'll build up muscle and muscle helps burn energy but would it make a significant difference? how much do you think it burns approximately per hour? they're 2.5 pounds each.
i'm not over weight, 20 years old, female and usually active.

If you're not overweight why do you want to wear ankle weights to lose weight?
When I was in college I wore them all the time to try to strengthen my legs and lose weight and finally one of the coaches took me aside and said I was doing significant damage to my knees because of the improper weight displacement--with extra weight around the ankles it's VERY bad for your knees. I was doing wrist weights for a while too but they were too bulky and same thing, they hurt my elbows.

I agree with Rosie Young. People have told me that to wear ankle weights causes knee problems. they have their place (although very limited) place in fitness, but I wouldn't make it a habit.

By wearing them, you migth strengthen your legs a little and burn a few additional calories, but I am not sure if it would be significant. It'd be like asking a bodybuilding to do a couple hundred bicep curls with 2 pound weights. Sure, he'll be sore and burn some calories, but he's not gonna have huge biceps and probably have tendonitis to show for it.
