It is a cult that sets a date for some major event to happen. When the day comes and goes without they event taking place they kill themselves. This suicide doesn't happen as a spur of the moment thought. The cult leader slowly brainwashes the followers over years. Jim Jones is a prime example. Also, the group (don't remember their name) who killed themselves because the mothership did not come from behind the comet and take them away.

I dont know if THEY THEMSELVES even know what they are. Cults like these normally have some psycho leader or prophet or whatever, who fills his followers heads with all kinds of bull. They then believe that if they take their own lives, they'll be transported to some wonderful afterlife.... Yeah - right!

Jim Jones, "Jonestown" group was one. The Hale Bop (I may have that spelled wrong) was more recent. The Branch Davidians (depending on whom you ask) might be considered as another.

Any religion that's highest standard of value is selflessness. Otherwise known as Altruism.
Think about it. If your highest value is not your own life. Than what is?
