I hope its possible but more then often there are too many memories and mixed feelings. Unless the break up was completely mutual it would be unfair to ask your ex partner who may still have feelings to be friends.. it would be harder for them to move on. Kinda self fish too because its like I still want you but I don't really "want you".

absolutly. the old "when harry met sally" line that guys and girls can never really be friends is usually quite true. once sex is invloved, i don't believe there is much room for going back to just friends. saying this, there are always exceptions however. the other person is in a committed relationship and so are you, then why not try having lunch as friends. however, as long as the side are not completely balanced - meaning neither of you have any feelings for the other, sexual, romantic, anything - there can never be friendship.
