I have a half gallon of milk in the fridge dated "SELL BY JULY 11" NEVER OPENED, SEAL NEVER BROKEN... okay to open and use or no?

Use the "smell" test. Sometimes it will be fine if never opened, and it is less than a week after the "Sell By" date. If it smells OK, taste a sip. If it tastes OK, it is OK. But, use it quick.

Milk usually expires one week after the sell date. You may still have a chance!

I would open it and sniff. If it smells bad, it's probably bad. If it passes the sniff test, take a small drink. If it tastes OK, then it's safe but it may spoil quickly.

definately go ahead and open it and take the scent test. i just had that happen with sour cream...sell by july 10th....never opened. it was fine, i guess because it was sealed....well and it's already kinda sour in the first place :-)

I agree. Open it, sniff it, taste a little. ( Sniff and sip, eh? If you like, swirl it around like wine as well!)) You'll know if itsOkay.

Then boil it strongly before using.

You could try it. If it smells off or tastes funny, you'd better pour it out. Myself, I wouldn't take the chance.
