If you are looking for a free antivirus application, there are three good programs - AVG, AVAST, and AntiVir - that you can download. A fourth program, Bitdefender, also has a free version, but it does not provide a realtime background scanner, only an on-demand scanner.

Of the first three, Antivir has been rated the best by a narrow margin, though the first three do provide good protection in general. My personal preference is for AVAST!; though its scanning speed is slow, I find it has the best real-time protection, covering IM, P2P, web, LAN, and local drive scanning.

AVG and antivir PE are the best among the free lot, but if you reinstall your OS frequently...say 45-60 days, then go for Avast!, its a free demo of 60 days, and is the best avtivirus off lot. It rocks...Bye..best of luck
