If you faked your death to commit a fraud (insurance money or avoiding jail), every day you spend pretending to be dead is a new crime. So the statute of limitations never runs out.
Faking your death to not commit a fraud, however, isn't illegal.
Overall, I would reccomend against it.

If you have killed off an imaginary playmate or a God in a major pantheon, there is a statute of limitations that extends through at least 23 lifetimes. That would mean at least 24 fake deaths. Messy.
Killing the Tooth Fairy or Santa Claus has no limitation. You are doomed.
Speaking of which:
Two little girls come out of a hellfire and brimstone sermon. The first turns to the second and asks, "Do you believe in Satan?"
The second girl replies, "No, it's just like Santa Claus.....
...it's your daddy!"
Hope this helps.

Well, there's the statute of limitations, but if you faked your death for reasons like the fact that you owe back taxes or were wanted for some crime, you can still be charged with those things.

After 7 years you can be declared legally dead. If you've faked your own death to commit fraud, then it only kicks in 10 years after you are declared dead.
However, if you've gone so far as to have yourself buried, then you are in the clear.

Nope your family can have you declared legally dead after 7 or 10 years. But you would still be liable for whatever you were liable for before you disappeared.

Maybe it's because after 10 years of practice, you should be ready for the real thing.

It probably is true because there is a statute of limitations for most things, except murder.
