8 glasses

I have always been told that 8 glasses of water a day keeps you flushed out, and your systems functioning properly. A glass in this case is considered to be an 8 ounce glass, so 64 ounces or 2 quarts in a day. However, this should be spread out over the day, not chugged all at once, because if you drink it all at once, any excess will be voided by your urinary system. Also, if you are engaging in heavy physical activity, or working outside when it is hot, you obviously need to drink more while doing that. And it should be water you are drinking, not tea, or coffee, or soda pop. Sports drinks like Gatorade are very popular, but I have had doctors tell me that they are basically junk food. They have a lot of calories in them, and unless you are really working hard or engaged in intense physically activity, you don't need them to hydrate yourself. Just plain water.

They say you should drink 8 8oz glass' a day - but i think the more water you drink the more you hold weight - i know to many people that drink nothing but water and do hard exercising and they struggle with weight control - I know we should drink water but how much should be up to your body - you know your body better then anyone.

they say 8 (8oz) glasses of water a day on the average. But if you are trying to lose weight, drink half of your body weight. if you weigh 150 lbs drink 75 oz of water per day.

The simple answer is that you should be drinking enough so that your urine is almost clear (a little bit of color is ok). But for a more exact answer, take your weight in pounds and divide it by 2. This is how many ounces of water you need in one day. So, if you are 100 pounds, you need 50 ounces.
